with all things being equal, is it safe to say SMU and TCU are easier to get into?
Yep. If daddy can cut the check then they can go to SMU.Dallas82 said:
SMU is a private school and as such doesn't have a 10% rule. SMU has the $50,000 rule. If you can afford the $50,000 freshman tuition, you can go there.

All things being equal, top 10% makes it easier for those students from small high schools with crappy SAT's to get into A&M automatically when they don't have much hope of attending SMU or TCU unless they have a lot of family money.
Top 10% is the reason the last several years Blinn Team's avg SAT is higher than the incoming A&M freshman SAT avg. A&M is forced to take a fair number of top 10% kids that wouldn't be competitive at many other places. There are quite a few non-auto admits at A&M that receive decent scholarship offers from ACU, TCU, SMU, etc. because they went to top notch high schools, weren't top 10% but took lots of AP courses and have 1300 SAT's....and A&M offered Blinn Team.
Each school can make marketing statements because of the situation to try and spin the issue.
Aggie Spin: TCU and SMU offer academic scholarships to students who don't aren't in our first several cuts for admission....see we are harder to get into.
TCU & SMU Spin: We recognize your high school prepared you well, A&M dissed you by offering Blinn Team while they automatically let in lots of significantly less qualified students ..... the choice is yours...but we are offering you a scholarship while A&M is spitting in your face with their Blinn Team offer while they let in kids automatically with low SAT scores.
