The 2016 fall semester marked the launch of the Science Leadership Scholars Program. The inaugural class of 23 freshmen will be equipped with mentorship and tools to succeed in the College of Science.

"We wanted to make a concentrated effort to help a pivotal pilot group of determined, academically solid, yet otherwise at-risk students beat the odds that suggest collegiate success may not be in their future," said Dean of Science Meigan Aronson. "Our goal was to get involved long before there is a problem and put them on a track that ensures they are set up to thrive at Texas A&M and as majors within the College of Science."

The Science Leadership Scholars were recruited primarily for their past academic achievement and future potential, also taking into consideration other factors such as being first-generation, low-income students majoring in mathematics and science.
