Consistently voting for the party of big government here to help, big government exists to solve every problem for everyone, "tax the rich", "make them pay their fair share", "equity of outcomes", where working for government or scamming the enormous government are the best get rich schemes over business and entrepreneurship, where self serving itself by keeping and increasing government-dependent freeloaders is a priority, and then defending yourself as not a "true" socialist because there's still some variation of market economy remaining (for now), is disingenuous and probably what Hugo Chavez supporters thought too.

Not true. Taxation to provide money for required public goods, e.g. military, judiciary, roads, etc.. that benefit everyone is not wealth redistribution. Taxation to take from Paul to give to Peter so Peter can buy stuff for himself is wealth redistribution.

The Dems would have elected Sanders in 2016 and in 2020 had the Dems not rigged the nomination process. They are all Marxists, everyone of them!

Almost no one here is buying what you're selling. Pay more attention to what they say and how they say it than what they have been able to accomplish. I am convinced that a large number of them, particularly those that seek positions of power, would absolutely go full 1984 inner party if they could get away with it, and the rest of the dupes in the party would go right along with it into slavery.

I don't know, but this seems a bit too much of "What-about-ism". IMO, there is a palpable difference between the perpetual venality of politicians of all stripes and the frenzied attack on American ideals by the now mainstream left.

If they get their way, forget about the years and tears it took for you you to be a doctor. Your profession will be lucky to earn what Cuba doctors make after the "redistribution reset".

Correct. They wanted single payer in 2010 but couldn't get there. That means a significant pay cut for medical professionals. The next time they get full control, we are getting Medicare for All at the very least. I don't think they will ever fully nationalize because they want patients to be able to sue the docs.

Correct. The word games don't matter. We should judge a system by what it does, not by what it claims. Most of them will claim not to be communists, but will openly promote Collectivist policies administered by the government . Functionally they are the same thing.

The important issue is that the modern left keeps moving CLOSER to the typical authoritarian state you think of when you hear the word communist. You see, they are "progressives." And progress to them means that whenever a collectivist idea fails, they just didn't go far enough. This keeps inching them closer and closer to the full on authoritarian communist state. So that is where this will end up if the left is given power for long enough.

Yes, the biggest problem with communism is they keep trying, failing spectacularly and destructively, and then claiming it wasn't done properly so another attempt should be made.

That's really the rub that certain posters can't seem to fathom. ALL collectivist adherents inevitably find their beliefs ending in totalitarian statism, whatever label you want to put on it. Trying to define narrow boundaries between this flavor and that flavor of collectivism is pointless because it always ends the same way. It always moves further left, consuming more collective power along the way like a black hole. Power never comes back out. Even those at the top who exploit the system for their benefit can get crushed by the state if they misstep, which basically means their power is an illusion.

The only way to combat it is to provide a legal framework that places individual liberty above all else and even then, it's a crapshoot because for the civil order required to fend off anarchy, some level of central planning is required.
