Maybe I am wrong but "mass deportations" seem like a negotiating tactic to be used against the new President of Mexico.

I know everyone is focused on Venezuelans…..but can you legally deport people back to a country with whom you do not have diplomatic relations?

So now they're worried about the price of groceries? Laughable.

It's not one we want to set. Circumstances demand it.

Here's what pisses me off. I can see both sides of the principled opposition to suspecting everyone and demanding their papers contrasted with the claim that it's the only way to fix this.

The problem is that, like usual, the government either allows or creates a problem and then says "We can fix it, we just need more power."

It feels like blackmail.

They can ask all day long. They can't require it unless you are detained because they have reasonable evidence to suspect you of having committed or about to commit a crime.

One, if you are driving this is not true. And because the vast majority of ID requests from non-criminals occurs during traffic stops, refusing to provide ID effectively amounts to legal justification for detention for most people most of the time.

Second, judges across the country and at the federal level have consistently upheld evidence found during supposedly illegal detentions/searches. If you refuse to show ID, many authorities/agents/officers will use that as justification in the moment then look for ANY reason to make it stick.
For them to talk to you, they have to pull you over. To pull you over, they have to suspect you of a crime/violation.

All they have to do is say they suspected you of such. There is virtually no burden of proof requirement for authorities in these instances. For example (annd a common scenario), an officer finding weed on you during a search who post-facto claims he suspected you of having weed will win every time.
Which is heinous and a violation of civil liberties
Two wrongs don't make a right (no pun intended)

Why was the suspect stopped? They didn't use their blinker, they didn't come to a complete stop, or a broken tail light. They can't just stop you because they suspect you of having weed.

They can't just randomly search you because they suspect you of a crime. They have to have reasonable suspicion, according to Terry v. Ohio. So just asking me for my ID or anyone else because they want to isn't enough.

That's not true at all, my friend. You can become "illegal" if you overstay your visa or lose your employment sponsorship.

I know of a gentleman who worked for a friend who had an SSN and driver's license. He paid all of the taxes that everyone else paid, even though he was here illegally. Eventually, he was caught and detained by ICE.

He has since earned his citizenship because his employer and church paid for a good immigration lawyer.

Ah right.. that is possible. But the case you mention is when a legal person becomes illegal.

The other case is when when people who never were legal. I don't think they pay taxes (Venez migrantS).

You're joking, right?

Illegal immigrants pay over $10 billion in withheld payroll taxes alone. And that's before factoring in sales tax and the lower number that pay income taxes.

Again, I don't have a problem with deporting them all in principle. It's just a logistical and financial impossibility.

Don't make perfect the enemy of good here. Nobody is losing sleep over the tax paying, law abiding illegal immigrant families. Get the criminals and the young men with no ties (who are much higher risk for becoming criminals) out and then we can talk about real world options for the rest.

And yet they do it all the time. I've been stopped before by an officer saying I didn't use a turn signal when I absolutely did. The reality was I was the only car driving down the Main Street of a one horse town at 3 AM and he was trolling for a merit badge. But had anything come of that he would have absolutely been assumed to be in the right by the court.

How accurate is your info? Since employers wouldn't voluntarily admit they're hiring illegals me their ssn are all fake. I'm guessing their wildly inflated numbers generated by lib think tank. I can guarantee that no one I know that hired housekeepers or lawn guys ever paid one dime of payroll tax on their wages.

I don't understand this.

Market incentives will be created for US citizens and legal permanent residents to do these jobs.

I am hearing the same Democrats that said "who will pick the cotton?" in the 1860s now say "who will pick the crops?" in the 2020s.

I am not saying you are a Democrat. However, the Democrats have been pushing this hard in the mainstream media and on social media since Trump won.

Just saying that the Democrats line of thinking has not changed in 160 years.
Market incentives i.e. higher pay? I'm happy to pay $20 for a happy meal now so that McDonalds workers get paid more, and I'll be happy to pay for the price increase on cotton goods to support a higher wage for cotton pickers. Higher costs for consumers is what I was thinking when I voted to overhaul immigration.

I do know that about the new President. Trump negotiated with her predecessor AMLO (same party/also a Marxist) for remain in Mexico and a new free trade deal to pivot from China. Under the Biden administration that all unraveled. Mexico has pivoted to China and now supports every Marxist in Latin America.

If he does do mass deportations just send all to Mexico regardless of country of origin. Or at least threaten it
