So the NHS has become as "hateful" and "ignorant" as I've been told I am by the alphabet mafia on X. That's quite an honor...

...for them.

It's a sad statement when the rational public feels compelled they need need to applaud a federal agency for using sound science and rationality in their decision making.

If only the U.S. NIH would be so bold.

Yet again, another instance of government run single payer healthcare system showing its far superior to our for profit system.

The profit motive is preventing our healthcare system to come to the same conclusion

You've been supporting the trans-kid train from day one. You cannot suddenly turn around and applause this decision.

This is peak hypocrisy.

While the above [censored] is a hypocrite, I will say he/she/zer is correct.

The only reason England is doing this is due to expense. They are simply using the correct, rational argument as their excuse so they don't have to state the truth.

What lunatic would ever have believed that "blocking puberty" in any form of treatment was safe for kids?

I have an aunt there now with a brain tumor that they have deemed not worth operating on. You have to wonder who its not worth it to?

Her husband died a few years back. Cancer. Once they detected it, they put him in the queue for treatment. Earliest they could get him in was 14 months. He died on a bed in the hallway of the hospital a year after his diagnosis and two months before his first treatment was scheduled.

England's National Health Service bans puberty blockers for kids

Puberty blockers banned for kids because there's 'not enough evidence of safety,' England's National Health Service said

England's National Health Service banned the use of puberty blockers for children seeking treatment for gender dysphoria, citing limited research.
Drugs that severely limit or even damage natural growth. What can go wrong?
Who would ever think this in an acceptable drug to use on childern... Yeah I know the answer.

Well, you are correct about this part

Providers don't do gender affirming procedures for kids because it's good for the kids

They do it because they make a sh**load of money from it

There is one legitimarte use for puberty blockers, for children who start puberty at an extremely young age, long before they should. It is very rare condition, usually caused by a problem in the pituitary gland, but does need medical treatment. This is what the drugs were intended for, not preparing kids to be sexually mutilated.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

And life long care keeps the money train rolling in.

Evil and insidious.

Weird, in other threads on the board you have said things like this about kids getting puberty blockers:

Quote:

The medical community has made the judgement that the practice of hormonal treatments is beneficial to the patient. That opinion is the one that matters here for medical decisions. They are the experts. They perform the studies. They evaluate the effectiveness and overall risk. I don't give a damn about the opinions of some bible thumpers trying to impose their world view on everyone.

You don't have access to hindsight in making medical decisions, so whatever the accepted practices of today are, those should be free from government interference (OOPS). Like everything, medicine does evolve, but that should be driven by the professionals in the medical community, not politicians.
Quote:

I trust the American Academy of Pediatrics on these issues much more than Greg Abbott or Ken Paxton to have an opinion on what is proper medical care
Quote:

I'm certainly not a pronoun person, but I'm not going to get in the way of medical care decisions made by doctors patients and parents backed by a highly respected professional medical association. This isn't some rouge quackery treatment.
So which is it, do you no longer agree with the "experts" since your beloved government healthcare system ruled against them? You're ok with government "getting in the way of medical care decision by doctors and parents" now?

Almost like you're a marxist troll and not someone to be taken seriously, Shanked Punt.

Science does evolve and the NHS experts, who previously supported this sort of care, have now with all the evidence available have now come to a new conclusion. I fully support their science based decision.

I knew girls who got their periods in 3rd grade. They were 8.

I don't think blockers should be used for that.

Periods do suck. But it is a fact of life.

8 is uncommon, but it does happen.

Cases were medical intervention is needed are for children who are 4, 5, 6 years old.

And like I said, it is very, very rare.
