The media is doing all they can to get him to drop out. I know he had a change in campaign managers because his campaign was lagging a bit. I think it's too damned early. I don't want Haley to be a choice. I think he can at least make up ground on Haley and put her behind him.

Sounds like the DeSantis camp is getting a small taste of MSM smears. Good practice in the future for how to deal with this.

DeSantis should stay in as long as he can and gain as many delegates as he can. You never know what will happen on the legal front with Trump, and if nothing else he gets to position himself for a nice primetime speech at the Republican convention kind of like Reagan did in 1976. If there is a country left in 2028, he will be in a good position to win.

DeSantis wanted to run for President in the worst way possible

So he did

There are still opportunities for DeSantis up through Super Tuesday but if the 'other than Trump' vote doesn't coalesce around a single candidate soon nobody will be able to catch Trump.

That said, if Haley gets an outright win in NH, it will be hard to argue that DeSantis should be the other than Trump candidate over her.

DeSantis should do whatever it takes to stay a prominent leader of the GOP and avoid doing anything that would hinder his chances in the future of being said leader.

We need a lot more DeSantis types and hopefully he can be the bold leader that the squishy GOP leaders start to learn from.

Trump tearing DeSantis down is not helping that.

It pains me to say this, but DeSantis will not do well in NH. I think Haley builds momentum there and then with S.C., I think DeSantis is likely done. I don't think Haley beats Trump.

Unfortunately for all of us, it's gonna be a choice between the same two geriatrics come Nov. 2024.

One is a socialist vegetable and the other is an angry narcissist who might have staff that will stumble into some decent policy decisions while Trump focuses on revenge and the Democrats try to impeach him for four years.

I pulled the lever for Biden to get rid of Trump/MAGA. That didn't work, so here were are (again).

I hope he stays in until March. If so, I'm pulling the lever for him.

I understand attacks are part of politics (and always have been been) but the biggest issue I have with Trump is that he almost always attacks from the left now. In 2016, Trump pushed the conversation to the right- now he does the opposite.

Matt Walsh mentioned months ago on his podcast that he'd have no issue if Trump's attacks were pushing DeSantis or others to be more conservative or go to the right, but he hasn't done that.

I think he hangs in until South Carolina and sees what happens. The longer he is staying in seems to be pulling Trump on some positions like CBDC so I'm all for it. Trump and Haley seem to barely be campaigning so why not? Some of the Desantis folks are encouraging him to go scorched Earth on Trump and I disagree with that, though he needs to point out policy differences.

Right now the hope is that Haley does poorly in NH and drops out and it may press Trump to make a VP decision. It's all longshot territory for sure but I don't think DeSantis is damaging himself by staying in and he is setting himself up to be the alternative if Trump is out for some reason (health being the biggest thing imo). He can always suspend if he wants, just no real rush.

There's no guarantee either geriatric is healthy enough to run 10 months from now.

This isn't a prediction or anything, but it's foolish to just assume that Trump or Biden won't have a major health issue in the next 10 months.

Meh. Trump is old but shown zero signs of actual health problems. If anything, people wish he would tone down the energy, constant talking, and remembering everyone who's "wronged him"

Biden on the other hand has not looked well since he started campaigning in 2020 and has only gotten worse. He needs to be shown where to walk and struggles to get out a sentence.

Trying to neatly equate the two is a stretch at best.

We can't let little pissant Iowa and NH keep deciding who can and who cannot run for president. Presidential campaigns are like running a restaurant, you have to have enough money to weather the first 18 months. If you don't have enough money to make it to March in a presidential run, you should never run in the first place. DeSantis needs to at least stick around until Super Tuesday.

Biden definitely looks worse than Trump but if you look at Trump 2024 and then Trump 2016 and can't see a significant decline both physically and mentally I don't know what to tell you. People at that age can just drop dead or certainly have a stroke or heart attack or cancer with almost no warning. The fact Biden is worse than Trump is true for sure but that's a terrible argument because neither should be anywhere near the WH at those ages.

Otherwise I'm writing in RFK.
I'm not going to contribute to the problem by voting Trump in the primary just because he's in the lead. Too many people vote for a candidate just because "they're winning."

No equating at all. Merely that age increases health uncertainty. (period) That's an undisputable fact.

Trump is healthy, until he's not. It's just different as you age and both of them are too old to be POTUS.

Obviously given the choice, Trump would be eons better, but still he's not the best this country can produce.

He has run a poor campaign but where would his support go?

I would tend to think that they would mostly go to Trump but some RDS supporters have TDS, which I don't understand, so I think they would move to Haley.

I hope he doesn't get out anytime soon.

Another thing I'm doing for New Years is not listening to MSM news. I get a brief scan of the headlines, but I don't listen on my morning, lunch and evening commute, getting ready in the morning or check the web all day. A little Robert Earl Keen in the morning is good for the soul. I still come here, obv, and read stuff.

On commercials, I'd flip between Sirius stations for Fox, CNN, MSNBC, BBC and NPR. They are all toxic.

Morning Joe on MSNBC is nothing but "Trump is literally Hitler" 24/7. I still don't like Trump, but policy-wise he'd be better than Biden. He doesn't give a crap about the Constitution or laws, so I'm still not comfortable with him or MAGA.

I can't vote for Biden again - 4 more years would be too destructive. Not sure if I can pull the lever for Trump or not. But I plan to keep unplugged from MSM - it's toxic.

Still hoping for DeSantis, but that ship has sailed. If Haley is the nominee, I'd vote for her in a second over Biden.

I mean he has run a pretty poor campaign. He's lost all of his momentum from Florida. You can blame it on the MSM. But, my bet is those folks in Iowa that just delivered the biggest primary landslide in history to Trump don't follow much in the way of the MSM.

Honestly, DeSantis for the most part came off as insincere and weak which is ironic because he seemed to be anything but during his time as governor.

Historic "Primary landslide" is a joke - incumbents don't have opposition so there is nothing to compare him to.

As a virtual incumbent, the results were pathetic. More Trump/MAGA spin.

This. How many times has an essentially incumbent president gotten barely 50% of the primary vote? That shows very weak support.

You may not be Trump/MAGA but you've been duped into parroting the narrative that was pushed all over MSM and Twitter/X by Trump bots. What do you think Obama's numbers would have been if he were primaried in a solid Dem State after his first term? 50%? No way, it would have been like 99.9%.

That is great to hear. I completely agree the MSM is toxic and I've also tuned them out nearly completely unless I want to hear what the establishment is selling the populace .

And I didn't mean my question as a gotcha or a you must vote for Trump retort. I would much rather a person abstain than vote for Democrat. Haley however is a wolf in sheeps clothing but that's just my opinion, but technically better than a Democrat.

it also doesn't speak to why DeSantis is faltering so badly. you can discount Trump. i don't care. he's going to be the nominee at this point. but, Hailey has overtaken DeSantis which has only happened because DeSantis has failed to connect with anyone on the campaign trail.

Well that's not true. When you see some of these poll details, a large percentage of Trump supporters actually like DeSantis and say that if Trump weren't running he would be their choice.

His financial supporters will probably pull the plug after SC, but they would be wise to keep him in it until the convention, just in case something happens to Trump.

DeSantis virtually ending the national ambitions of Newsom alone made his campaign a success. I don't know how you think that is weak much less his destruction of Haley in the last debate but ok.

Desantis' problem is that he isn't Trump.

The republican nomination process is in no way about policy, or ideas. The cult of personality that is the Trump campaign demands Trump to the exclusion of anyone or anything else.

You said "he came off as insecure and weak".

I think there is plenty of room for criticism of his campaign, anytime you aren't succeeding that's the case. In the end though this was more about Trump than him and I don't know how he could have broken through that the way things turned out. The important thing is he is 45 and is emerging from this with by far the highest positives of any candidate besides Trump and this is it for Trump. He built a dedicated following and built his national brand. No one is really able to attack him on record, it's all vague feeling based crap that in the end is people that wanted Trump trying to find a reason why they didn't pick DeSantis.

We seem to have chosen as a Party to ride the Trump train to the end. Hopefully it doesn't go off a cliff. That said the era of Trump is almost over, even if he is elected he will be lucky to get a year before all of the focus turns to 2028.
