I mean if you have a strong family history of early heart disease or one of the hereditary hyperlipidemias yeah a carnivore diet isn't something you should indulge in. But for the majority of the population more typical western diets that lead to obesity and diabetes will be a much bigger risk for heart disease in the prime of their life than any version of a carnivore diet.

The essence of the Carnivore Diet is understanding it is compatible with our operating system. There are three main OS in this world, animal/fish, plant, and fungi. You cannot run a mac system on android and inflammation in our bodies comes from trying to run plant code in an animal OS.

Plants are stationary and cannot run away from their predators so they evolved a whole complex of chemical defenses to defeat constant consumption by animals. Animals can walk, run, fly , swim etc. and did not have to evolve a stationary style of defense. So bottom line we do better with food in the OS that evolved as we did rather than food that evolved in a competing OS designed to stop our consuming it.

That is the Cliff's notes of why a carnivore diet eliminates inflammation which is the underlying culprit for disease. We are not putting plants in our bodies that evolved to fight us off. Do yourself a favor and read the books out there, eyeopening. Better yet try eating that way for a few days and watch how the aches and pains we learn to live with simply melt away.

Don't obsess over it. Trial and error is necessary to figure out what works for you.

I eat meat and fruit nearly exclusively and pair it with intermittent fasting. I drink regularly, have a little bread/pasta every once in awhile, and I don't overthink it. I get back in the bandwagon the next day and hope for the best.

What do y'all eat on a daily basis? Like whats a typical day look like? I want to start the low carb and low sugar lifestyle but not sure whats best to eat to maximize effects.

The idea that saturated fat is unhealthy was one of the worst things that nutrition recommendations started to follow. It's based on research that was soundly rejected by the medical community. The researcher, Ancel Keys, was upset about the rejection, and conducted an observational study based on 7 different countries referred to as the Seven Countries Study. The conclusion he drew was that saturated fat was the main culprit. Rather than publishing this study in a medical journal (since his theory of saturated fat was already soundly dismissed), he took it to Time magazine, and the public perception followed suit.

I look for steaks on sale and load up/freeze. My default if I can't find any steaks is 80/20 GB hamburger patties with bacon/Parmesan cheese/egg mixed in with a little seasoning. I usually eat the patties 5 times a week, and they taste great every time.

Oh, and having a black stone outdoor cooktop is essential to carnivore!

They only cautionary thing i'd say about the diet is what it will be like if you go back to a "normal" diet.

Did a similar diet in 2013ish. Had way more sensitivity to carbs and gluten after not eating it for nearly 2 years.

Probably just proves that i shouldn't be eating that crap anyways, but such is life

I limit carbs and try to use only tallow, butter, or avocado oil for sauting meat and vegetables. Eat bacon, eggs, steak, lamb, fish, pork, venison on a rotating basis daily. Usually have a couple of side vegetables. Seldom eat bread or rice. I am careful not to overeat.

Heart Disease for most Americans is caused by Sugar, not fat. The sugar is turned into fat because of insulin resistance, since insulin is a storage hormone and liver has to do something with all the carbs floating around.

I don't like carnivore, better to do a meat and vegetable diet. Vegetable are carbs, but they have lots of fiber and water as well.

Either way, cut the sugar, from any source, including fruit.

My wife got seed oil pilled and we went almost completely all natural and went what we jokingly call "crunchy" in the last couple years. The right is more "based" on all natural foods than the left is nowadays.

Make sure the beef you are buying is all natural grass fed. You wouldn't want your beef to have eaten something you wouldn't eat.

Carnivore is the way to go. Avoid seed oils and carbs. That plus intermittent fasting is the way to go.

There is a healthy carnivore crowd on Twitter/x. For this lady, it cured her seizures. And she lost a ton of weight.

Except many animals are in fact designed to eat in a different "OS" such as the cattle I would assume you produce. So this logic really doesn't hold much water

And if you want an oil to cook with for higher temps, make clarified butter. Smoke point is much higher and it tastes good too.

I was able to go very low carb for around10 years, and dropped most of my health issues. In the last 3 years I went back to no restrictions because I was at a healthy weight.

IBS came back, gerd, strange skin problems, inflammation, and more. I am 100% convinced that the SAD (standard American diet) is killing everyone.

I had perfect blood work including my lipids when I ate mostly meat and high fiber veggies. I only used real butter, and hard cheeses. I did eat nuts, but not many because they would stifle my weight loss due to the high calories. I did this diet because I was in daily pain before. I didn't follow Keto or any other named diet. I just ate what kept me from hurting.

I finally had to switch back. I guess it's bacon and eggs for breakfast today =)

Yep. It really is pretty simple. You could eat nothing but Bud Light and Twinkies every day and lose weight, have better cholesterol/hemoglobin A1c numbers/blood pressure, as long as you consistently consume less calories than you expend. This isn't magic.

And for you nancies who are worried about getting cirrhosis on my patented Bud Light and Twinkie diet, don't worry! The liver can take a licking and keep on ticking!

You'll die of scurvy long before your liver gives out.

I went carnivore very strictly for 6 months and lost 33 pounds. My brother is a doctor and he, and others, were constantly parroting that crap about it being bad for my cholesterol. I'm the type who never seems to get sick, and i've gone to the doctor twice since I was 18 due to an ear infection.

I finally went to the doctor for a standard check up and bloodwork. My bloodwork came back all perfect.

When you start reading into the food pyramid, and what is parroted by medical "professionals" as nutritional fact, it's hard not to get conspiratorial. It is all pushed by various mega food conglomerates.

My doctor didn't believe me that I only ate meat and veggies with real butter. When I told him I'd eat bacon and bbq when out for lunch because it was on the menu, he was shocked that my cholesterol was perfect. This was easily 10 years back when I first started. I think there is way more evidence that this is normal now.

I think with most diets, any benefits you see are not necessarily due to the new stuff you are consuming but the old **** you are hopefully no longer eating.

Exercise has very little to do with weight loss. Lot of benefits, but you can plough through the calories you burn in running 10 miles in about 10 minutes.

I did the Keto diet and not the carnivore diet like this thread is about, but this is how I started.

Download a phone App and track everything that you eat. What I found was when I tracked what I ate, then I really became aware of the extra snacks, carbs, etc I was consuming because it was there or I was bored. So it is an accountability aspect. I use Lose It on Android the Free version, but I am sure it is on all platforms. It has many common foods already in it and even some restaurant meals so you just have to put portion size.
There are many similar apps.

First things first, on Keto it is all about Carbs. Carbohydrates whether sugar or bread type carbs are stored as fat if not used on the day you eat them. The idea behind Keto, is if you remove the Carbs, the body will eventually realize it (3-7 days) and will start breaking down the fat to use as energy.

To get into Ketosis, takes 3-7 days and there are ways to test it with test kits (breath or pee test) to determine if you are in Ketosis. Ketosis the process of breaking down fat and it leaves the body in your pee. Oddly enough, I could smell the difference in my pee (weird I know) and can tell when I am in Ketosis. My wife also hates it and won't kiss me, she says it is on my breath (which has been confirmed by web accounts as well)

How do you get into Ketosis? By Limiting Carbs of course. My goal based on reading is to stay below 25 NET carbs PER DAY. What is a NET Carb? That is a good question and had no idea when getting into this. If you look on the back of any food, you will see Carbohydrates and Fiber. A Net Carb is Subtracting the Fiber from the Carbs. Why do you subtract? Well the idea is that Fiber is insoluble Carbs and so don't really count.


Here is example of Net Carbs...



So in this example, the 4 gram of Carb tortilla could be loaded with meat, cheese or any other 0 or very low carb food and I could eat 6 of them PER DAY and still stay below my goal of 25 net carbs.

My brother did Keto after I had success and he stayed below 50 Net Carbs and had good results with lots of exercise. So the 25 is not a hard number. Some days I would do 18 Net Carbs, other days 35 net Carbs.

Quick Hitter Advice.

When you start, eat breakfast because at first it will feel like you are starving. Omelet, Bacon and Eggs, Sausage, cheese. Just check the label and keep it under 5-8 carbs (pace your carbs throughout the day, breakfast low carb is the easiest)

Once you get into Ketosis, you will occasionally get hungry, but it is a different kind of hunger, you don't have the stomach grumbling like I do when I skip a meal on no diet

After about 3-4 weeks, I would eventually go to Intermittent Fasting and not eat anything (water and coffee only) from 10 PM to 11 AM. I would then eat a brunch type food at 11 or so when I got hungry.

Look up Keto Recipes online. There are a bunch of good ones on the internet. Keto Pizza Crust, Keto Sausage Balls, Keto waffles, almost any meal you can think of.

I eventually got into making Keto desserts (with Zero Carb Sugar Substitutes) as well, but many people think that can make dieters fall off the wagon.

For a quick dessert, I would get Sugar Free Jello with Ready Whip (1 Carb) and Keto Ice Cream (like 2 or 3 Net Carbs).

My problem with calorie deficient diets is that I cannot stand being hungry. With the carnivore diet, I literally eat when I am hungry, until I am no longer hungry. I would usually eat over 2 pounds of meat in a day, and would feel full. After a couple of weeks of this, I had lost 6 pounds or so.

If you just do Keto or Atkins rather than full blown carnivore, you can have asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and green beans and still lose weight. Strawberries and blueberries can also be eaten in moderation.

On the Shawn Baker topic, if you listen to some of his comments on IG or podcasts he's obviously a proponent of carnivore diet, but I'd say first and foremost he thinks people need to stop eating sugar and processed foods. He gets that everyone won't eat 3 lbs of steak a day like him, but if they'd cut out all of the junk and just eat real food it would really help our population get healthier.

Paul Saladino is an interesting follow too. He does carnivore plus fruit and raw dairy. A common theme between those two guys is that they also add physical activity into their lives. Baker lifts and Saladino surf, walks, hikes, etc. I think a lot of people don't realize what a difference 30 mins of activity a day could do for them. My wife and I were in Italy for 2 weeks this year and I lost weight on that trip even though I drank wine and beer every day and ate pasta, steak, charcuterie, and pastries for breakfast most days. We were also walking between 12,000 - 22,000 steps a day.
