Bill allows for all students to receive a free breakfast and a free lunch, regardless of parental income. Uses state funds "after the application of all available federal funds."

Not the government's job to feed every kid in the state.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I'm sure all the other welfare programs will be adjusted to reflect that children get 2 free meals per day 9 months per year.

This is great news. The more free stuff(reparations, food, etc) those states offer, the more the freeloaders move there and away from hard-working, independent Americans. They need to start giving away cars somewhere, EVs of course.
Pretty sure most of you don’t know me.

You got it. No such thing as a free lunch.

Uhmm? When I was a kid in the 60s, my lunchbox was a baloney sandwich, milk in the thermos and maybe a orange, part of an apple, or cookies, homemade.

I never knew any better.

Brings back memories.

Once a week my mom would give me a nickel so I could buy two sugar cookies at the school cafeteria for a weekly treat. I can still see her reaching into her purse to dig out that nickel and how I felt like a rich man (6 to 8 years old, lol).

It's the parent's job to feed their kids.

Not the state.

If you cannot feed your child then you need to work harder.

A ham sandwich, an apple, a yogurt, and milk costs about a buck fifty.

If a parent wants to cede something as simple and basic as feeding their child to the state, what else won't you cede? This is how the state starts to make you feel like you should rely on them for everything.

And that is how they instill the idea in you that your kids are actually their kids

Leftist feel good fantasy: "no poor child will go hungry thanks to Dem benevolence!"

Reality: Some Dems friend/family/donor owns the company that provides the food to MN school districts and now they'll get to charge the tax payer $10 a meal for the buck fifty it actually costs and 2/3rds winds up in the dumpster

More accurately, not paid for by the recipient.
NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

I lived in MN from 17-22, leaving because of bad government and taxation.

You think this is a good thing? Minnesota already has among the most expansive 'social safety nets' in the country and one of the highest rates of welfare abuse and fraud. If the state is going to provide free lunch for all students, should they not reduce the amount of food/nutrition related spending for the food no longer needed at home? Of course they won't. This is about financially rewarding the DFL(Mn Dems) corporate food distributors who in turn reward DFL candidates with more political donations. And knowing first hand from my children's' time in Minnetonka schools, most school provided lunches are poor quality, nasty, and thrown away. It's an epic amount of waste.

Are they providing food to students or paying a well connected donor for the food? I suggest the latter. When/If reparations are provided, is the government providing money for past 'sins' or paying casinos and car dealerships?

It's just amazing how not a single response was in favor of not having kids go to school hungry. Maybe y'all don't do your own groceries but lately a "ham sandwich, an apple, a yogurt, and milk" do not cost "about a buck fifty."

When I was in grade school, I didn't get a free breakfast/lunch but I did get a "reduced cost" lunch (don't remember the exact language but it was something along those lines). It cost me 40 cents to get breakfast and $1.25 to buy lunch. I did have kids in my group of friends that did get their meals for free as it was based on family income. And I am so grateful for the school district and the taxpayers that made that possible for us so we wouldn't be hungry. As an adult now that pays taxes, I would be so glad if those taxes were used to do the same for other kids.

Very few are hungry, as you can tell looking at the garbage during COVID when all school meals were free in my state.

So maybe you could start a non profit to provide for those few actually hungry.

Or teach lazy parents how to pack a lunch and make peanut butter toast for breakfast

Volunteering at food banks and watching in the cafeteria with the share baskets inundated with the free food they don't want and the cans being full when the share baskets can hold no more.

I know know, anecdotes aren't proof or a source. Just like listing studies saying the number of kids living in poverty doesn't prove the kids are hungry.

This lines the pockets of Aramark etc with very few kids actually eating most of the daily lunch and breakfast.
I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal.
