This debate will go on forever without a conclusion.

Do I think the vaccine overall saved lives, probably. Do I think it should have been mandated, definitely not. Do I think we should have shut the country down, I think this was the safest course especially when we had no idea what we were dealing with but looking back was a bad idea.

With this said, I was very reluctant to get the Covid shot. I am healthy, overall fit, run 3 days a week with marathons sprinkled in. I finally got my covid shot not for myself but more so because I could not live with myself if I was somehow responsible for a bad family outcome.

I became short of breath with running right after getting my shot and thought it was due to the typical vaccine reaction. I am never short of breath when I run, my legs will give out way before my cardio gives out. This lasted 6 months and prompted me to get a million dollar work up that was neg. I finally started to get back to normal at about 1 yr.

Can I prove it was the shot, no but I sure believe it. I and my family will never get the booster especially with the mild variant.

I have many antedotal stories of bad outcomes with vaccination. When the variant had a high mobidity/mortality rate, I think you have to pick your poison that is best for yourself. But with the current variant, I think you would be dumb to get the booster.

If COVID was never in the news, no one would have ever known anything was happening. That's how insignificant it was as a disease.

Much like the "Theory" of evolution, amirite?

All of medicine is based on what has worked for similar complaints in the past. It's a practice. One that is effective.

The "jab" has been given to hundreds of millions of people. Before the "jab", hundreds of thousands of people were dying from Covid. After, all we have is anecdotal stories of adverse reactions, but none are near the level of Covid deaths.

I wish my dad who was vaxed and boosted was still with us but he died suddenly of a saddle pulmonary embolism. Its strange as he had no history of any cardio vascular issues and he had just been through all the pre op protocol for a knee replacement that was scheduled for that next week.
Same. My dad got his third booster at his annual physical. Blood work was all in line. He died suddenly 30 days later.

I am as conservative with vaccine as they come. Mrna is a new science and rushed without knowing the long term effects.

But I will tell you that Original to Delta variants were nothing normal and if the label Covid never existed, it would not have been a nonstory.

Never in my 35 year career did I see so many healthy/fit sub 40 people have so much pulmonary involvement.

What happened did not belong in the Covid hysteria camp but it surly did not belong in the its another virus camp.

I mean it did push a lot of already unhealth people over the edge to death. You'd have hear something as deaths were way up in 2020 and 2021. Certainly not nearly the number attributed to covid were covid deaths.

I have been in critical care practice for 22 year. 1st 19 years, I have seen zero healthy patients under 50 who had the flu/other virus/bacterial pneumonia needing hospitalization. I can't think of one and I prob personally took care of well north of 100K pts.

When Covid hit through Delta, I personally took care of 10+ pts needing hospitalization and witnessed hundreds similarly sick.

The debate should not be if Covid had a one in a lifetime high morbidity/mortality rate but if all the money spent/lock down/booster mandate/hysteria was an over reaction worse than the increased deaths. Now this is the debate that needs to be had before the next bad pathogen shows up.

Getting vaccinated does not prevent you from getting covid or whatever your vaccinated against, theory more so was it lessened the symptoms, decreased viral load/transmission and decreased hospitalizations.

People who gets vaccinated for covid/flu/RSV, etc still can get it.

People who " gets vaccinated for covid" can still die.

1) People who die with COVID maybe would have lived had they got the shot.

2) People who got the shot and died maybe would have lived had they not got the shot.

I think that the evidence of #2 is stronger than the evidence of #1.

And, for kids under 20, getting the shot provides health risks and no health benefits. It's child abuse.

I don't trust any health agency that recommends an experimental vaccine to a demographic group with chances of serious complications or death from the disease that is statistically equivalent to zero.

Hundreds of millions of doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered. Yet, we only have anecdotal tales of complications due to the vaccine. The most highly researched introduction of a vaccine in the history of healthcare and health officials are NOT advising the general public to avoid it.

After the introduction of the vaccine, the death rate of those vaccinated dropped precipitously, while that of the unvaccinated did not. Through natural immunity and vaccination, the death rates from Covid are no longer at pandemic levels, but all that means is that those most vulnerable have either been vaccinated or are already dead.

"After the introduction of the vaccine, the death rate of those vaccinated dropped precipitously"

Death rates dropping precipitously was multifactorial but I would say the reasons were mostly

1. Covid mutating to a less lethal form which is what essentially all pathogens do given time. Killing 100% of hosts is a bad way for it to propagate.
2. Natural immunity and Vaccine immunity. I believe natural is always better than vaccine immunity.
3. Old/Sick died pre vaccine so less susceptible hosts

I am not saying quarantine was correct, but the best outcome was it gave the virus time to mutate to a less deadly form.

To make this point. If Covid was 100% lethal and the subsequent variant was 50% then outcome is just better getting the 2nd variant which is what quarantine did. Eventually almost everyone will get Covid or one of its variants.

You are correct that there are many reasons the covid death rate has fallen. However, in March of last year, in the US, the weekly death rate for unvaccinated individuals was 1.71 deaths per 100,000. For those who were vaccinated, it was only 0.22 and for those vaccinated and boosted, it was 0.11.--Scientific American

That's about an 8 times drop in the death rate resulting from vaccination.

No, it isn't 100%. Despite what some would make you believe, it was never sold as being 100% effective. It is demonstrably effective, however.

And, yes, the strains spreading now are not as virulent as previous ones. That doesn't mean it isn't deadly, however. Last week, we had 224 deaths in the US. The week before 625. That difference may be due to a delay in reporting, I am not sure. Regardless, people are still getting sick and dying from it.

I am not arguing that natural immunity is better or worse than natural immunity. However, natural immunity isn't much help to those who die before they develop immunity.

And, you are also correct, that eventually, most everybody will get Covid or one of its variants. Some of those will also die as a result.
It is much easier to fool someone than it is to convince someone that he has been fooled.

"I hope we don't find out…this mRNA lingers in the body," says Pfizer doctor

Dr. Walker also wonders about the potential causes of widespread menstrual irregularities. He says the vaccine must be interacting with the HPG (hypothalamus, pituitary, gonad) axis the hormonal chain which regulates menstruation and numerous other bio systems. He's confused, however, because, "The vaccine doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier."

Except it absolutely does go to the brain. We've also known this for a long time, as many autopsies attest. It doesn't even occur to Dr. Walker that the lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) also go directly to the ovaries, as we've known since the spring of 2021, when Canadian vaccinologist Dr. Byram Bridle dug up Pfizer's regulatory dossier submitted to the Japanese government.

This is a lie, we have studies showing heart damage, especially to young males. We also have studies showing blood clots. Shall I keep going?
Its always interesting when people on F16 think they can persuade others who disagree with them. Everyone on both sides has 'facts'. "I believe my facts and not your facts"....still doesn't seem to move the needle convincing anyone. Most people are going to choose their sources to give credence to. What people should agree on is that locking down was an over reaction...but one that really only could be made with hindsight. If we ever get a health spread of another new virus I imagine we won't lock down again...for better or worse.
