I think anyone who thinks Tsla is finished has been proven blatantly wrong.

Currently Tsla has about 28% margin making roughly 15K off each car sold. Almost every car maker not chinese loses money. Ford goal is to be EV profitable in 2026. They may not survive til then.

I hope you realize that financial reporting standards in a communist dictatorship may not be same as we have in the US.

The only money China makes is what we pay them in interest on our debt they hold and through our ****ty tech companies outsourcing all the manufacture to China.

The point of that post was to say that other auto manufacturers aren't making money off of EVs and Tesla is making substantial money off of them, not to praise the Chinese automakers.

Even if their financials are accurate, the Chinese automakers' margins on EVs are in the low single digits.

In other words if Tesla starts having trouble selling their vehicles at the current prices, they can drop prices and regain their growth trajectory.

This thread prob needs to die. It looks many states will follow Cali and countries follow EU. After russia made a big deal out of gas/oil, EV is going to win out regardless if it makes sense. Way too much political capital not to push for EV/"clean energy"

Well thank god this is all buttoned up. Let's put this EV debate to bed once and for all.

Just agree with me that EVs will settle out at about 20-25% market share and we can call it a day. Deal?

This is multifactorial and essentially the perfect environment for EVs esp Tesla

1. Tesla started in California
2. High income state
3. Weather best for range
4. Cal mandates for EV conversion including businesses
5. High gas prices
6. Superchargers everywhere
7. Affluent young who are techies
8. High population concentrated in large cities thus most drive locally

So...we can't apply that model of customer base and infrastructure to the rest of the country?
Good grief. He's saying the "perfect" model. Tesla's are being sold out everywhere on the planet except the Sahara desert and maybe northern Arkansas. If you move to one of those areas then maybe you can avoid ever hearing about or seeing an EV again.
Again...CA bought almost HALF of the EVs in the US. So, he explained why it worked for CALIFORNIA.

But, I was being a little smartass about how that model doesn't extend to the other 49 states...

How many ****ing times do I have to tell you people that I don't care if EVs get sold? I'm an engineer and I love cool tech. So, I'm not against them. I work with UAS and will be doing a lot of work with AAM. Many of those AAM UAS are EVs. Hell, all but one of our UAS platform is an EV.

However, every time anyone mentions some roadblock to EV adoption, the EV folks on here Poo Poo those roadblocks and handwave them away as if that's how **** works in the real world.

There are REAL issues that will hamper adoption. Until the EV folks actually accept they exist, I just shake my head because they're being myopic.
There are two other factors he miss

1. Tax credits both federal (up to $7500) and CA state ($2000 to $7500 currently)
2. EVs gain access to HOV lanes for single occupancy vehicles (I know many techies the bought an EV solely to save on commute time)

In CA almost all of the profit for selling a Tesla comes from the tax payers not the buyer.

Tesla, on their earnings reports for the last 3 years, has not been eligible for the $7500 tax credit. So no. Not even remotely close to all or even the majority of their profitability has been on the back of tax payers.

Maybe, if we hadn't taken away the credit, they'd still be around.

lol. Lemme guess… they're probably issuing a software update to fix the "recall".

I'm having to guess because you didn't share a link, and I'm too lazy to google what is probably a nothing-burger.

Yes. It's a software update. Meanwhile Dodge is recalling 306,000 vehicles today for actual physical hardware that could start a fire. Diesel must be code for electric since only EVs catch on fire.

Ford is awful

but they are now claiming they will sell TWO MILLION EV pickup trucks in the next few years

because F150 owners for sure want to trade those in for electric vehicles

For contractors, the F-150 Lightning is pretty badass. For a farm truck, it is not. For people that do not do either and enjoy driving a truck it is likewise pretty good.

I don't think anyone in here has tried to make the case that EVs are for everybody and every use case.

But I do think that the hardcore anti-EV folks tend to zero in on THEIR use cases and forget that the vast VAST majority of people are just on-road regional commuters. Heck, that's even true within the pickup truck sector.

For those people, even current battery/EV technology is a perfectly suitable, if not preferred option, assuming the purchase price of these vehicles can come down to include more of these buyers' budgets.

Tesla may not be finished but EV batteries made from Lithium ion batteries are a problem. 200+ incidents last year (through Nov 22) resulting in nearly 20 deaths.

That is a kill rate 10 times that of COVID (see, I can do math too).

EVs are a clear and present danger, a national health emergency, and no face coverings will prevent children of color from being lexecuted in higher numbers due to poor investment in inner city super chargers.
