Yeah I think someone experienced a different 90's than I did (I was partial to the dorito or little Hitler myself)

Everything you're saying is true. What is also true, and 10x more for conservatives, is these types of personal life disasters always come back to bite us in the ass. Look at Trump. We already knew he cheated on his wives and was always looking for an upgrade. But then we were treated to the fact that he was banging some nasty skank pron star and paying her hush money while Melania was home with baby Baron. Yikes.

We should strive for better. If we can't get it, so be it. But we should try. These types always turn in to dumpster fires at some point.
And how did the fact that he banged Stormy Daniels before he was in office affect the job he did while he was president? It didn't, other than making a big distraction when the tabloids splashed the story all over in big bold letters. Repeat after me until you learn to accept it...I DON'T CARE WHO HE/SHE WAS BANGING BEFORE HE/SHE WAS IN OFFICE...I CARE WHAT THEY DO WHILE THEY ARE IN OFFICE.

Purely in terms of what happened with the American economy, deregulation, lack of foreign wars, etc. Trump was one of the best presidents we have ever had. What he did for America SHOULD overshadow any concern you had about who he was f***ing before he was in office. The sooner we stop caring about what our politicians did with who in their past, the sooner we can stop having these pointless sidetracks to otherwise successful administrations. The fact that we make such a big deal about it is why we can't get anybody except the power hungry or narcissists to run for office.
I think it's you that doesn't seem to get it. If I have a better choice I'm going to take it. The better choice is DeSantis. If I can get the same performance and policies out of a guy minus the buffoonery and sleazy baggage, why wouldn't I take that option?

You keep replying to me like I'm the problem for pointing out the problems. It's not me. I voted for him twice. If he is on the ballot in 2024 I'll vote for him a third time (but I won't support him over DeSantis in the primary if they both run). But the reason all of this matters is because Trump's dumpster fire personal life drives votes and support away. I'm a realist. I can separate that from the good he did for the country and vote for the sleaze. Millions of others can't. They can't get past it. In particular women. Too many people vote on emotions instead of logic and reason. I can't change that and neither can you but it's reality.

Why wouldn't we strive for the better option?

Nah, disagree.

Trump cheated on his wives and chased tail. But politically he was freaking great.

Being a narcissist with questionable morals is a long tradition with great politicians. Jefferson ****ed his slaves. Hell, Ben Franklin had literal kids skeletons in his basement for some reason.

It's funny how they never mention JFK. And he even cheated IN the White House, along with what a few other presidents.

I don't understand why posters can acknowledge that many American voters are emotionally driven and with the same breath refuse to believe your points above.

A reminder that most of us on TexAgs seem to ignore over and over...

Character matters.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11260893/Marjorie-Taylor-Greenes-husband-files-DIVORCE-just-years-met-gym-manager-lover.html

Here's a quick list of virtues and vices. Our public officials, to be true servants of the Republic, ought to demonstrate the virtues and avoid the vices. By electing people with character is the true way to lasting change.

The GOOD:
  • Chastity
  • Temperance
  • Charity
  • Diligence
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Humility

The BAD:

  • Wrath
  • Greed
  • Sloth
  • Pride
  • Lust
  • Envy
  • Gluttony

Where does pedophilia fall? Didn't seems to matter to 81,000,000 last time, so why do I care who she's banging?

But you're right (extreme sarcasm), we need more democrats in the House.

Looking at these two and thinking about them as a couple. I'm going to assume that tantric sex is something that can be done in the dark?

I used to be naive and believe that character mattered.

Then the Democratic Party was taken over by marxists. So I will always vote against the democrat. Every time all the time. If Satan incarnate was running against the democrat he would have my vote, because satan is less evil than the current version of the Democratic Party.

AOC communicates moronic, poorly thought out justification for socialism which killed 100,000,000 people in the last century ignored by the Left wing (D) media

MTG and Boebert communicate pro-US, pro-captialism points that are usually well thought out and immediately attacked by the media who are mostly if not all hardcore Left wingers.
Not true at all. MTG and Boebert shoot from the hip about as badly as AOC. I just find them a little less annoying than their Marxist counterpart because their heart is in the right place.

Specific examples?
I don't spend my days keeping lists of everything stupid said by various members of Congress, but just to give you two, MTG's statement that she is a "Christian Nationalist" (she assumed that had to be a good thing, since she's a Christian and thinks she's a nationalist, being a Christian Nationalist must be doubly good) and Boebert's comment about it being safe to go to a committee meeting because Ilhan Omar didn't have a backpback.

You said "as badly as AOC." Most people on this forum can probably give you 2 dozen examples of stupid stuff AOC has said over the years -- everything from we've got 12 years left (or was it 11, I don't recall) to one of several embarrassing statements she's made in hearings. I don't expect anyone to know everything one said by memory, but looking something up on AOC is painfully easy. Here are just a few quotes I got in 30 seconds:

https://thelibertarianrepublic.com/5-of-alexandria-ocasio-cortezs-dumbest-tweets-and-videos/

The quote you referenced about Omar was almost certainly a poor attempt at humor (sad to say I have a lot of experience in that area, mostly when I was younger -- though my attempts probably were just dumb, not in poor taste). But to be frank, I wouldn't want to be around her, regardless of the setting. However, I think my point stands. Regardless of what these two say or how bright they are, comparing them to AOC is absurd. The people you mentioned are a LITTLE BIT like Rick Perry: somewhat high(er) achievers who don't articulate at the highest level. Yet we hold elected people to higher standards than we would otherwise hold these people to. Are they Ted Cruz level intelligent? No, but few up there are.

AOC is the dumbest person in Congress (or one of them anyway) who thinks she's the smartest. That's not even comparable to the two you mentioned. And you're way too smart to make that comparison.

Don't fall into the trap thinking you need to throw a bone to anyone. If this is your opinion, fine, but the people you mention should, at worst, just be ignored.

Screening political candidates based on their virtues and vices has a track record that is a worse predictor of their performance in office than trailing P/E ratio has as a predictor of stock price appreciation. I don't care about pedigrees or peccadillos. Policy guided by constitutional principles is what matters.

I'm not a fan of kicking someone while she's down, or he's down. This is a sad moment and even though I know respect is an outdated ideal, I'd even extend it to political rivals. When Stupid Joe's son died,

This is sad for her and her family.

But in the schadenfreude age we live in, we all need to gloat when our social, political, or cultural adversaries hurt.

This world needs Jesus.

MTG won re-election easily. So much in-party hatred for her outside of her district.

I love how the media convinces R's to hate the politicians that fight hardest for their own interests.
