I don't think that's exactly right. It sounds like there was a serious problem, perhaps just not having resulted in harm yet. Not sure FDA accused them of deaths (could be wrong), but rather that may have been part of the reason to start an investigation. Abbot is specifically talking about linking infant deaths to them and stating the investigation found no evidence of that. They aren't really disputing that the facility was found to have contamination, nor do they seem to be disputing that this is a problem. Just calling out the press secretary, and I suppose the media, for inappropriately claiming their product killed people.
It's probably a lot easier to explain it as needing to happen because it killed babies than needing to happen at exactly the worst time even though no product was contaminated. Definitely no misinformation from the WH, just context-setting.
