Isn't that like an $80k ride? Assuming stolen?

That cop is a BAMF. Wonder if he's been in real combat? I feel like your avg city cop would have been screaming and crying.

Video is fake. Not enough people driving slow in the left lane.

I also noticed a lot of them did not pull over for the siren. He had to drive on the shoulder a few times. Crazy!

LOL. Good luck to those who want to complain about this one!

In this case, he was wanted for armed robbery and fleeing arrest. And then he shot and injured 2 cops before he was killed.

Surprised the trooper wasn't wearing a seatbelt? If I'm ramming an suv with my patrol car trying to spin them out, I'm probably buckling up in case **** goes sideways.

I assume this is trained procedure, and I like it: the cop calls "TVI" x 3 and doesn't even try to stop . It looks like an intentional pass-off so that the high-speed pursuit officer with the highest adrenaline removes himself from what follows (as well as the geometry of fire concern).

There have been amped-up cops who have tunnel vision after a chase who do dumb stuff, and letting the subsequent officers take over likely helps... unless the suspect is resigning themselves to suicide by cop as they likely did here...

There was a massive shootout when they tried to arrest him. He actually shot 2 cops with an AK-47. He was then killed.

"Sources told News 4 that's when Carswell got out of the SUV, grabbed an AK-47 and started firing at troopers."

You never know until you are in it. In Utah we train police recruits on chases on a closed course to get them used to sirens, stress, people screaming at them over the radio, etc.: most do okay, but troopers get that experience of more frequent chases outside of city streets. Local PDs have policies which discourage chases, for obvious reasons having to do with density of population and pedestrians.

BTW, did they ID the criminal, er… the deceased?

It's probably safer that they didn't. When you're driving 80 down a crowded interstate it's not easy for everyone to start switching lanes. Especially when the perp and cops are probably doing 100 and come up on you in a fraction of a second.

Being 2022, when will officers involved in high speed chases on foot or in a vehicle, attempting dangerous maneuvers, possibly needing to access weapons or other equipment, etc., going to get a hands-free method of communicating with other officers or dispatch?

Besides that question, that dude is one cool BA. Can you imagine what it would take for him to get rattled? And how he would respond to that?

"He is a wonderful son, father, business owner, a master welder and he is dearly missed," said Lisa Carswell.

Troopers say Carswell caught their attention because he was wanted in connection to an armed robbery in Arizona.

However, his mom says he just stole watermelon.

"He was there on a wellness journey. Camping and being spiritual. He had been there for a bit and doing things he liked to do in his last moments. I am really upset about this."

In the dashcam video, you can see Carswell fire at officers.

Family members say he got out and began playing the bongo drums and that's when troopers shot and killed him.

Sometimes it's hard to tell where the siren is coming from, and you don't get passed by a high speed chase every day. They're going much faster than regular traffic, so I bet some people were a little confused as to what to do and were passed before they figured out what was going on.

Oklahoma State Troopers are bad ass. Anyone else remember this one from a few years ago?

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Why do all these arrest resisting low lives have mothers/family members defending their actions even when there is clear evidence to the contrary? After reading these articles for years, I truly believe that it takes at least one of three things to resist arrest and then complain about the consequences:

1. Being on drugs and truly not being yourself in the moment
2. Psychiatric problems
3. Narcissism coupled with strong co-dependent behavior from family

All the "he was a good boy", " he was going to college", "he was just scared" etc…. That excusing of bad behavior was going on long before the perp tried to kill cops. If he is on video trying to kill police officers and this is the response from the mother, what other atrocities has this guy done that his mother has covered up or brushed off?

In March 2018, I was on a wellness journey and got pulled over by a South Dakota State Trooper for going 105 mph in a 65 mph. (that 4.8L BMW X5 hauls some serious ass)

The incident ended with a recommendation for a Steakhouse in Pierre.

Probably helped that when the cop hit his lights, I pulled over. Probably also helped that I hit the brakes when I saw him so that he only clocked me at 80 mph.

Probably also helped that I didn't have any warrants.

The steakhouse in Pierre was great and they had a nonstop loop of 1988-1993 era country music playing which definitely added to the ambiance.

Been a while since I've done any EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) work, but you can absolutely out drive your siren. The longer wail patterns used when cruising do carry better but at those speeds it's likely the oncoming traffic never heard the sirens until they were already overtaking them.

Also consider how extremely well insulated modern vehicles are. Add your favorite music playing, and there's no way 75% of the drivers on that freeway knew about that chase until it was in front of them.

I want to know how many times bongo-drum boys SUV rolled after he was PIT maneuvered!
