How would that look? Who wants to wear goggles and live in a fake world 24/7? It's great as a video game for an hour or two.

What do you think the world will be like if this Metaverse thing becomes a reality like how Zuck thinks it will be?

Like the invention of VHS and the Internet this will revolutionize the Porn industry. Outside of that I don't think most people will have their lives transformed outside of the typical orange deeks that already don't leave their rooms.

Seven and three are ten, not only now, but forever. There has never been a time when seven and three were not ten, nor will there ever be a time when they are not ten. Therefore, I have said that the truth of number is incorruptible and common to all who think. — St. Augustine

Metaverse flop n effect. As facebook stock is down 25% following an abysmal quarter earnings.

Not to mention virtual rape.

I still find it funny, that a highly contagious virus is released, liberals favor lockdown, and on comes the metaverse.

If that's how the future will look, I hope it takes 20 years or however long it takes for me to be dead first.

I've already decided I will not join the metaverse if it ever comes to fruition. Real life is better even though it sucks sometimes. Also the amount of mental illness that thing will cause will be staggering.

I think AR will become a thing. VR just isn't realistically possible yet. Maybe the "full dive" type stuff eventually but even then humans just aren't made to do that stuff.

Like other addictions, losing yourself in the metaverse won't do anything to alleviate the suckage going on in the real world. Indeed, failing to face the issues usually makes them worse.

AR would be cool, like Google glass to tell you about things you see or guide you to a desired location. Like a heads-up display on your car.

VR is going to need significant advancement over today's model where basically you just see something in front of your face with heavy goggles to remind you it's not real. Some sort of full enclosure and 360 degree VR with the ability to give the sense of moving around. You walk on some surface where you don't actually go anywhere but the view moves, etc.

A good use for that tech would be psychological therapy. Controlling the exposure and knowing it's artificial yet lifelike could help rewrite the brains signal pathways and help with ptsd, social anxiety disorders, etc.

Aparently real estate in the metaverse is a thing...

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/12/investors-are-paying-millions-for-virtual-land-in-the-metaverse.html

  • Real estate in virtual worlds sometimes called the metaverse is going for millions of dollars in some cases.
  • The most expensive spots are near where lots of users congregate for instance, someone recently paid $450,000 to be Snoop Dogg's neighbor in a virtual world called the Sandbox.
  • But even proponents are warning would-be investors that this is risky business.

Huge opportunity for fraud. It what iteration does what you purchase exist? If you can manifest 1 virtual world, you can manifest a great many more where the same thing is for sale to many different people at once.

Think it's difficult now knowing whom to trust? We're inundated with data and information and have no clue if it's accurate or even apt. The metaverse will magnify that a thousandfold.

Consider that Zuckerberg knew Facebook was shedding users when they announced th name change to Meta. He is flailing because growth not only stalled but his users are leaving.

Facebook is a company that does not know how to create content. Their content is their users and whatever entertainment value user posted content generates. It's getting very stale because their censorship and insistence on ideogical conformity. Advertisers are not goint to keep paying for access to a shrinking population that is just an echo chamber of crap.

That's why Zuckerberg is betting everything on VR and VR and proprietary Oculus hardware. His hope is that 3D user created content save Facebook from it own creative stagnation. Facebook Horizon isn't even drawing flies. It's like Secondlife VR, but without legs.

Such perfect symbolism of him being the only one not using the product - and freely moving with a big grin... while everyone else has literally been tethered to their seats to use his product...
