Quick (OK, long) primer:

Jim Bob Duggar is a cultish-Christian Arkansas state politician and the patriarch of a family of 19 children. The family was featured in the TLC reality show "19 Kids and Counting" from 2008-2015. In 2015, it became public knowledge that the oldest son of the clan, Josh Duggar, had been accused of sexual molestation when he was a teenager. He confessed his actions at the time, the molestation was covered up by Jim Bob and the family, and Jim Bob possibly used his political connections (my opinion) to suppress potential criminal charges after Josh confessed to the Arkansas State police. It was later revealed that two of Josh's sisters were among his victims. The TLC show was cancelled shortly after the allegations came to light.

Josh Duggar married and now has 7 children with his wife, Anna. At one time he served as Executive Director of the Family Research Council.

In 2019, an investigation into the online trade of child sex abuse material discovered that someone at a business owned by Josh Duggar was sharing illegal videos on BitTorrent. A search warrant was executed at the site and, according to federal agents, Duggar blurted out something along the lines of he knew they were there because of the videos. Files were found on his computer. He was arrested and eventually placed under house arrest while awaiting trial.

In October, Josh's defense team threw a Hail Mary to suppress the computer and video evidence, arguing the agents were initially not able to download the full video files from Josh's computer (and thus the search warrant was invalid) and that the examination of the devices took too long. The judge disagreed and ruled the evidence was admissible.
https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2021/oct/19/in-blow-to-duggar-defense-judge-wont-suppress/

Yesterday, a pretrial hearing took place to determine whether Jim Bob and a family friend (both under subpoena by the prosecution) would be testifying about Josh's prior bad acts. Prosecutors are hoping to establish a pattern of behavior. The judge has not yet ruled on whether they will be permitted to testify. Jim Bob was on the stand today and was less than cooperative, repeatedly saying he didn't remember any details about Josh's confessions to him (guess he doesn't care much about what happened to his daughters) and at one point tried to big-time the federal judge overseeing the case.
Quote:

Later, he said "I can't remember" when asked about the report and called it "tabloid information." "I'm not going to allow it, are you going to allow for that?" he asked judge Timothy L. Brooks.
After prosecutors asked him to read a copy of the report, Jim Bob said "I'm not going to do that," but ultimately said his memory was not jogged by reading the report in his head.
"If there is [an] objection to be made, someone will make it but it won't be you," the judge told him.

Jury selection starts today. There will be no cameras or audio recordings of the proceedings due to the nature of the charges. Josh is charged with 1 count of receipt of child pornography and 1 count of possession. Each charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 60 months but sentencing guidelines will likely bump up the sentence quite a bit due to the age of the children in the videos, their content, and (if allowed to be introduced) the evidence of prior acts.

Jim Bob is currently running for a State Senate seat in a special election. He's running on a platform of family values.

Anna, Josh Duggar's wife, has remained steadfast in support. This is a good podcast exploring the Bill Gothard IBLP cult the Duggars belong to and why it is so hard for Anna to leave Josh despite his proclivities: https://julieroys.com/podcast/understanding-the-duggar-cult/

Funny thing about kiddie porn--- if there was no demand, there'd be no supply.

If Josh likes kiddie porn, he needs to spend some time (the rest of his life) in a room with no access to kiddie porn.

Bad take. This was a field office of the FBI acting to stop someone from sending kiddie porn. Unless you've got some kind of evidence that they planted it on his computer (which not even his defense team is saying), thiis isn't the place to air anti-FBI grievances.

It's an absolutely reasonable take.

Kiddie porn accusation, and it being a "field office" discredit nothing from an organzation that has as poor of a history as the FBI.

Is he innocent? Probably not, but the court will decide, but from Ruby Ridge (field office) to the Steele dossier to countless other cover ups the FBI has lost the presumption of truthfullness and accuracy. At this point I wouldn't put it passed an agent to plant something because of his role at the FRC. That's a reputation they have earned.

And if F16 isn't a place to discuss the FBI's malfeasance then where?

Most likely it is just naked pictures of kids running around. I don't think most kiddie porn is actually what most people would consider "pornographic", as I don't believe it's necessarily sexual, but rather it's just plain nudity.

Of course I've never seen kiddie porn, so I could be 100% off in my assumption.

From my understanding, the video that had been downloaded is considered one of the worst videos ever made, but it's fairly popular/mainstream in that world now.

The collection on the computer was pretty small overall and tame compared to others.

Sucks to be on that jury. That jury pool would be like Russian roulette. At least we can take comfort in whoever gets the unlucky draw will likely throw the book at him. So at least that's good.

I'll start off by saying that if Josh is guilty of the things he is accused of, he needs to pay with a long sentence (really to protect others from him as much as anything).

However, the FBI is a sleazy tool of the radical left to punish their political enemies and they should be disbanded. They are absolute, irredeemable, murderous trash.

Next, this is way too convenient for the far left, which would love nothing better than for this to be true. It yields multiple desired results for them: 1) tanks the FRC; 2) smears Christians in general; 3) destroys a famous family with a popular TV show that encouraged people to have large families, vote Republican and home school their kids.

It also allows hateful bigoted creeps on internet forums to trash a whole family because they think having large families is somehow offensive and proof of evil.

I would say I will withhold judgement until the trial is completed, but these days you can't completely trust our justice system. We'll have to pray that IF he is guilty, justice is done.

In all their hateful glee and rush to judgement, none of the people salivating over the prospect of Josh going to prison and the Duggars being shamed seem to pause and think about the effect this has had on the other members of the family, or that fact that he has a wife and 7 kids who will struggle financially and be raised without a father. No matter the outcome of the trial, this is a tragedy for an otherwise good family, but most people are just treating this as political sport and don't care at all about the people having their lives ruined as a result.

Josh molested a sister under the age of 7
Josh was working for the FRC while paying to cheat on his wife
When the FBI showed up at the car lot, the first thing out of his mouth was "What is this about? Has someone been downloading child pornography?"

He is his parents' golden child and they are spending 6 figures defending this, when they know he molested his sisters.

There is no reason to think he is the "golden child" over any of their other 1000 kids. I imagine if one their other kids was on trial for aggravated robbery, they would spend 6 figures defending him/her too. Parent's tend to defend their own kids. It's naive to think otherwise.

His wife gave birth to their 7th child earlier this month. So not only are they still together (can't figure that part out), but she's having more kids with a soon to be convicted child predator. I feel for her. She probably doesn't see a way out of this cult family.
