There's a thread about this on the entertainment board…..an equally big question is why was he pointing the gun at the director of photography and the director himself (2 were shot)

the gun could have suffered a catastrophic failure and caused the injury and death i would think, and that wouldnt require any live rounds. Im not sure how powerful blank rounds are though.

This was a bizarre story from when I was a teenager. I was surprised even prop guns can still be very dangerous.

They were likely filming a scene where the gun was pointed at the camera or off camera in their direction. The two people that were shot were likely looking through the camera monitors or coaching the scene.

I don't know if he will be in trouble, but terrible situation. It could also be a malfunctioning prop round.

If anyone is guilty of malfeasance it would be the party responsible for thr props and prop ammo.

It is common on sets for directors and dp's to go over scenes with star actors to get the most out of them.

This is tragic, shouldn't happen and will cause a stir. Similar to Brandon Lee's death during The Crow filming, where trash in the end of a prop gun caused his death during a scene.

Why do they use a real gun as a prop? Not too smart

Your claim is a 100% functional firearm was used?

If fired close enough the blast from a blank can be lethal. I wonder if Baldwin was playing around with a "safe" gun and fire blanks too close to the victims.
An accident would account for one injury but two injuries, one fatal, seems suspicious.

for what exactly?

negligence?

unless he prepped the gun and the blanks, this has nothing to do with Baldwin.

as someone else said, this is on the props master or their weapons consultant.

Quote:

A spokesperson for Baldwin stated there was an accident on the set involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks.

It's a western film so we are probably talking about a revolver that maybe exploded sending shrapnel in direction of crew bystanders.

Maybe we will find out if there was horseplay or if it was a legit malfunction.

Couldn't happen to a better person. Always check your own weapon before firing.

I still believe he was murdered by the triads. No way his father got stardom in HK without the backing of them.

If it was a handgun, highly unlikely even a real bullet would like not go through and strike another... not while being fatal to either victim. There is always the remote possibility that a projectile grazed the director on her neck (or other major blood vessel) then struck another.

And a handgun is not going to produce shrapnel, unless it strikes something crazy unlucky that creates fragments that even more rarely causes fatal injury.

Going to be interesting to see where this ends up. Goofing around with a prop gun is plausible. As mentioned, if close enough the percussion from the blank can be fatal if held to the head.

A complete accident twice? I see no scenario where a prop gun could be accidentally discharged and injure one person and kill another unless it was shot more than once.
