In august, nearly 5mil essential work-.. I mean, unskilled laborers quit their jobs. There are strikes ongoing across the country at various factories, restaurants, and stores. Workers are refusing to work for the wages being offered.

Is this not just the economy working as intended? The workers have a capital, their labor. They are willing to sell their labor to an employer, of which there are many, for a specific range of money. A range of money they will not accept anything outside of. They are openly vocal about displeasure with regards to working conditions.

However, long gone are the days of yore in which you ran around downtown slinging your resume to anyone who made eye contact with you. Now, the workers hold the leverage. These businesses, these braggarts who loved to go back and forth within the media cycle about their brave workers, readily attempt to undercut and undermine those holding up our economy on their backs.

There is no unskilled labor. There is no labor shortage. There are entitled owners who think they deserve the time of the workers, that they are owed that time regardless of the compensation that they offer.

We are seeing a real-time shift and revolution in the jobs system. How will your business respond?
No one should have to work to survive. Your right to life should not depend solely on your ability to produce capital.

There is a government printing money and sending it out to these people so they don't have to work to survive.

Why did you leave that part out?

As of yet, not a single person has shown evidence of me claiming to be a socialist or a Communist, and that's not what the thread is about. Although I guess you could argue about the "means of production being turned over to the workers" angle of it, but even that isn't the topic of this thread.

The topic is the current battle between employers and workers.

Ah, If we would have just listened to Bernie.

(What you are seeing in America today is due to stupid policies from the Biden administration. Bernie would have made it even worse.)

This thread will not go as the OP intended.

Perhaps he should stick to looking for that pangolin.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

There is no shift. Other than the minimum wage requirement that produces a pricing aberration at the low end, wages have always been dictated by supply and demand. There is nothing different or unusual about this now other than the occasional disruption caused by non-wage concerns like covid vaccination requirements.

If wages have always been dictated by supply and demand, why has the federal minimum wage remained flat?

Again, if those workers were receiving no govt benefits, your point would be valid.

But they are. And it isn't.

Even Biden, when questioned about the payments and effect on employment quipped "that's (the govt payment) their bargaining chip. You want them to work, pay them more."

What you ignore is the government interference in the markets allowing people to "strike". Extended and increased unemployment, increased food stamps, prebates on tax cuts...

I hope they are all replaced by kiosks and suffer consequences for their laziness and greed. Small business owners have come up on their wages, but it still isn't good enough. The previous $15/hr is easy to find now, but the goal-posts have shifted even further.

Free child care, massive child credits, food stamp increases, extended UE, relaxed welfare work requirements, etc...

They are predicting another 2 million will leave the work force and sit at home to be supported by the taxpayers once Joe makes the child credit permanent, which the Dems will do next year.

Enjoy your new country, OP.

OK, listen kid. "Workers" hold leverage because the federal government is paying folks pretty damn good since COVID started. You take that away and people will go back to work for a fair wage. Right now they don't have to work. This isn't some magical "workers revolt". This is a result of failed federal policy by idiots that think that there is a money tree. They don't understand crap about how the real world works.

To induce votes. The minimum wage was NEVER, intended to be "liveable". And, like all such laws, actually causes job losses,

The minimum wage is an artificial price point set by the government. It does not follow the rules of supply and demand for reasons that should be obvious to anyone with a high school education.

No, the battle is between government freebies to unemployed versus small business trying to stay afloat.

Higher wage minimums has destroyed business in several cities for example Seattle.
