It's a matter of time. Only 40 days are left in the legislative session and five controversial bills are already in the chambers. Passing this out of committee kills a lot of smaller bills due to time constraints.

Last night I was driving under the influence of alcohol and involved in a minor automobile accident in Montgomery County. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.
I regret my actions and apologize to my constituents and my family.
I know I have a problem and this incident serves as wake-up call for me.

Conroe and New Caney, April 24 Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon ordered the arrest of State Representative Dan Huberty, Republican of Kingwood, after Huberty failed a field sobriety test, which Precinct 4 Montgomery County Deputy Constables administered at an accident scene at F.M. 1314 and Sorters Road. Huberty's Corvette failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and "parked" underneath a vehicle stopped at the light in front of it.

At the accident scene, Huberty claimed he was exempt from arrest under Article 3, Section 14, of the Texas Constitution, which provides: "Senators and Representatives shall, except in cases of treason, felony, or breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during the session of the Legislature, and in going to and returning from the same." The arresting officer contacted Ligon who advised that Driving While Intoxicated and colliding with another vehicle, especially one stopped at an intersection's red light, is a "breach of the peace" excepted from the constitutional provision.

The Constable's Office took Huberty to the Montgomery County Jail where Huberty made bond approximately three hours later.

As someone whose brother had multiple Corvettes since he refinished and refurbished them, I got to drive a few of them. And a Porsche 911 Targa. Rough ride but damn thing could corner. 110 down the Katy Freeway one night. (My brother, not me driving.) Kid you not, Life in the Fats Lane was playing.

I trusted my brother and my Dad completely. Whatever the situation, I was seldom afraid.
