This is as dumbed down as I can get without changing the meaning: Computer networks have an "autodiscovery" feature, which, if enabled allows you to see what other nodes(servers) are connected to a particular server (by ip address or hostname). There are tools which allow you to make a "map" of all the connections between one machine and any directly or indirectly connected. Edit to add: by using a "whois" tool to look up where each server is registered, you can determine who owns it, or at least what country it is in.

If I am looking to overthrow a US election, I probably don't register the domain a few months before the election and also have the party doing the registering do so from china. I would think the conspirators would be a little more sophisticated that this.

One thing the critics need to get their arms around when they aren't too busy with their "psycho analysis". This isn't about overturning an election. It isn't about working for Trump. If he ends up being a beneficiary then so be it. This is about potential massive fraud against the American people. It's appalling that American citizens are willing to downplay and ignore that just because their candidate benefitted. NOTHING is worth fake election outcomes in a democracy. To just go along "to heal the country" is cowardly and shows a willingness to live with only the illusion of democracy.
