Do you want to understand why the Supreme Court went the way they did? Because they are there to follow the law. There is nothing in the law that would permit them to make the decisions based on loyalty to any one including the President.
Sure, there are times when their political leanings may influence the way they lean on some issues, but even then they are still going more or less by the law. They do not get their marching orders from any person including the President.
