To me, I don't think the Dems are going to make the same mistake of overconfidence again. I feel like if they get the WH and Senate and keep the House, they will move immediately to eliminate the filibuster, pack the court, and grant amnesty at minimum to get that done in the first 2 years before the next midterm.

If Biden wins there will be no salvaging the republic without violence. We will either have to fight back or accept our new socialist overlords.

Only about 1/3 of the population during the revolution were patriots. Most were just willing to accept their monarchical overlord.
Given the likely abuse of power by the Left if they get power again as some posters said, there is another route: Instead of trying to rear guard save, keep pushing it on past the point the Left has in mind ---- don't salvage the Republic, but stamp out redistributive Marxism by just going ahead and going national Empire right and required meritocracy. That would also re-assert the hegemony and not get into a downward spiral of having the UN dictate policy to us. Finally, it does make us a counter to China, and restores at least a bipolar super-power world, rather than UN dominated global marxist one where China is the main director.

I do not want a Biden win. In the past when Clinton and Obama won, it was oh well, go back to work and just live your life. This feels different. I am not a conspiracy guy, but I think if Biden wins, we have a Harris presidency and all the kooks that go along with it. I am not a fan of the civil war 2.0 scenarios as I am not really a fan of the ramifications for my family. (I am willing to sacrifice myself, but do not want to subject my 12 year old and wife to that)

Just the ponderings of a 49 year old guy who is wondering what next?

We don't do anything. We obey. Just like we've obeyed all the idiotic rules of the covid lockdowns that have devastated lives and wealth. There are no more Thomas Jeffersons, Patrick Henrys, et al.

Even "conservatives" are totalitarians. Hope Abbott falls into a river.

Believe all that would have gone rather different if this was 2021 and the first year of a Trump second term, and not having to watch some trip-up narrative so closely.

There in lies my question and problem. Who would be the TJ and PH? Look, Trump is not really an effective leader due to his absolute ability to piss people off and make bone headed statements. Is the the right man for the job policy wise, absolutely! The eloquence of a TJ is completely lost on him.

Look, I eat this crap up and spend more time than I should reading about it. My wife is very conservative and so is my 12 year old. The time that I have to spend explaining the nuisance of what Trump says and how the media portrays it is sometimes exhausting. I think Cruz is more in line with someone who can explain conservatism and is the leader that we need in the future.

Here is to hoping Trump can pull this one off and we get a Cruz in the future.

I agree on Abbott. The problem is that as conservatives we are left with only bad choices sometimes and we have to hold our nose when we vote. The other alternative is less tolerable. I admit to doing this when I voted for Trump in 2016. I think we are in a rigged system and way too comfortable.

At the end of the day, I think Federalism is what we are really looking for. Those guys back in the late 1700's had a cure for all of this crap, but we may be too far gone on the centralized fed govt side to bring that back.

Good thoughtful post actually. Here's a different way to be thinking about this. Even if Trump wins, he represents a holding action, till you can figure out what the next step is. The reason so far this, is history says this is very valuable ---- its worth the tension to slow a transformation. You get something better out of it.

To explain. Evil always comes out of a straight up Marxism and revolutionary redistribution fervor--- nightmares like the French Terror or Mao's Cultural Revolution. But look to a different example --the Anglo Saxon invasion of Roman Britain ----- it was slowed down by what is called the `Arthurian Fact' ---- the part of the King Arthur story that is clearly true: that a Romano Celtic Britain slowed down the invasion long enough to force an intermingling of ideas and values, that helped create the great culture known as England.

Increasingly, I have been seeing Trump as a King Arthur--- all he can do is slow down the Regressive Left's desire to make America into a great two-class version of Venezuela at the beck and call of the UN. Slow down or prevent the worst of the Left's ideas, while having to give way on things like more conservation and particularly health guarantees. (I never grew up with guarantees, but many of the Right expect insurance too, so that ship has sailed)

However, if he does this long enough --- it can buy time for Liberals to start weeding out radical Leftists- -- if our youth insist on socialism, they can have it. But maybe it can be a socialism that doesn't try to purge the memory of Jefferson and Washington or make ridiculous claims about the origins because it recognizes that EVERY man-made nation in history "botched it" since the dawn of time--whether you think that is Eden or Olduvai Gorge.

TLDR: The way forward is for the Right to use its remaining power to smash Marxism, to suppress the CRT and anti-American/Western agenda and white-bashing of the "The Left" at the expense of giving way on many of the more `liberal' ideas. Like fiscal irresponsibility about safety nets--- since no one is willing to just let the uninsured lump it.

Teach your kid to aim small, miss small, just in case.
Not a worry. His Mom and him are better shots than I am! He has been in 4-H shooting sports since he was 8 and can shoot every weapon I have effectively. I won't even shoot pistols with my wife anymore because all she does is laugh at me.

I still have them at ranges over 500m though!

Its not that kind of thread---but it does tell you what are directions to think about, and what can't be gone back to. The ineffective just doormat GOP of 2000-2016 while the Left agenda rolls forward on all fronts is not something the Right will return to. But people need to start thinking about just what they are trying to preserve for their kids, and what they might not care about at all.

Titan, what you are describing is still something of a retreat from Chosin. Attacking in a different direction. Our kids and realistically our wives and family rely on instant information. I am a reader and like to sink myself into something. This is lost on most of our society.

The media complex has become the military industrial complex of the 50's and 60's.

Excellent, excellent analogy. Don't mind if borrow it in the future. YES, you get it perfectly. As for those who rely on "instant information" --- its partly why they are so lost. Purists shouldn't complain about Trump's blue-collar style so damn much --he is the only one that speaks 21st C "sound-byte" language and "kitchen table English". As you rightly observed, my analogy was for insight like you showed there. So I am not saying try to EXPLAIN the above to people -- just do the Chosin, and you will get the South Korea out of it rather than the Viet Nam if you play your cards right. Or to use the original, you will get England out of it rather than just Saxon Britain.

The media complex is what Pravda was in the Soviet Union. It was something Russians had to find ways around, not believe.

The Tea Party actually worked. It got the GOP to unanimously oppose Obamacare ---that got them the House, and eventually the Senate, because the productive public did not want it.

The reason the Tea Party "collapsed" is the above (it didn't think about what it wanted specifically enough) --- it insisted on a Confederate approach--it refused to have a leader and clear structure of party power ---- to use the adversary's term -- "Trumpers" have proven far more powerful because willing to weld into a movement with a leader. Tea Party sentiment still has a place--it very much could revive in a National 2.0. toned party as proposed. (Btw I think it is correct to see Sarah Palin as a prototype of the Tea Party energy, that reached its peak with the victory in 2010 with the House win).

If the Dems get the Trifecta, the most important Dem senators will be more like Joe Manchin, Kirsten Sinema and Jackie Rosen.

It will be a fairly moderate agenda. Court packing will be unpopular with the moderate dem and their state. The old liberal justices will retire and be replaced.

You will get large economic stimulus, infrastructure package and healthcare public option. Legal immigration will be opened back up. Stalemate on illegal immigration.

For any legislation states have a lot of power, so the conservative legislatures and governors will push back, SC will find some things unconstitutional.

If the policy goes too far left, Dems will lose seats in house/senate in the 2022 midterms.

By 2022 the progressives will be extremely frustrated with Bidens agenda and primary some moderate dems.

Republicans will have to figure out what agenda can bring back a governing coalition. Will need to figure out a more popular agenda. They will drop some libertarian posturing.
