This is a lawsuit in the making.

"Blunt cuts of 100 officers between now and the end of the year is really not the way to proceed," Durkan said
Chief Best said if she is forced to lay off any officers, the cuts will disproportionately fall on the new hires and minority officers because of department policy.

One of the other areas of criticism is the fact that the council trying to cut the police budget in half has yet to sit down with the police chief:
Quote:

When asked about their collaboration, (City Council member) Mosqueda said, "I think it's important for folks to know we have taken into consideration much of what Chief Best has sent us, in terms of questions and issues she's identified."

Best shrugged off Mosqueda's remarks.

"I feel like you're very fortunate to have had that conversation with the council because they certainly haven't been talking with me," she said.

The council's Budget Committee was considering specific amendments to the police department's budget when it took several votes, chief among them were two measures by Councilwoman Kshama Sawant: one of the amendments would have immediately chopped 50 percent of the department's budget while a second measure would have slashed funding to the agency starting in November

After rejecting the pair of Sawant ordinances to slash the police budget by 50 percent, the council did approve measures to trip the pay of 13 high-ranking police officers, a measure that Sawant said would save about $500,000 this year.
Chief Best's lawyer called the vote retaliation:
Quote:

"She and Jenny Durkan gave a press conference where they were critical of the council. In my view, this was retaliation because as soon as they did that, the council in a vote that was not publicized, that was not on the agenda publicly voted to reduce her salary. This is the first black female police chief in the country. Her salary was reduced to $100,000 less than a white woman chief's salary, namely Kathleen O'Toole."

How would letting go officers disproportionately affect minority officers as a part of precinct policy?

Based on what I've read is that current policy is last in first out. Recent initiatives to improve diversity among the police force has led to minority officers being a large proportion of recent officer classes. As they are the less tenured officers current policies would lead to them being let go over the more tenured population which is more predominately white.

So leftist policies coming in conflict with other leftist policies. It's a leftist catch-22. Love this.

Several council members have already stated that they want white officers fired.

The money save by slashing the budget will go to paying off the lawsuits from the discrimination lawsuits from the illegally fired white cops.

I don't understand why there's any police in Seattledishu. Just leave. They don't want you. The sooner you leave. The quicker it burns, and the harder they will beg you to come back.

Hawg, here is my theory. We've gotten to the point with technology and cheap energy where we live in a bubble, free from cares about basic necessities, like food, clothing and shelter. People focused on providing those things in the most efficient manner and ensuring ample supply have a very different mindset. That same tech and energy has also allowed billions of people on this planet to live and survive that would not have just 100 years ago. People that are idiots who would have perished in the harsh conditions of the past are surviving. There are so many, you get a large gene lottery pool and end up with some of these idiots who are blessed with the ability to sell themselves. Think AOC. AOC is literally one of the dumbest human beings on the planet, yet is charismatic enough to get the people of her district to hand her the reigns of power. And the people do that because the bubble has removed the need to care about the necessities of life and survival. People are extremely wealthy compared to our ancestors. They can focus on all kinds of Idiocy that snake oil salesmen like AOC peddle.

Combine those two things and you get the toxic combination in Seattle.

Cassius makes a great point that fits right in with that old saying "before the Internet, the village idiots stayed in their own village." The internet, for bad as well as good, gives everyone a free publishing platform. To stand out from the masses, the crazier the better.

I fail to see why having an internet connection is a reason to lose all common sense, though.

At least there are still some adults in Minneapolis who were able to table the effort to put amending the City Charter to abolish the police department on the November ballot. So they pulled back from the ledge for the time being.

Seattle and Portland, not so much.

I love these peace, love and no rules ideology crowd. When the they are broke and have no work they they protest against wealth and religion. They adopt a political view the mostly become far left. When they become politicians they enact rules that favor protected class citizens (mostly anti white) and when their authority and power is challenge they become very heavy handed when enforcing policy while doing nothing to the groups they favor.

My signature on TexAgs used to be something like "Liberalism is an unfortunate side effect of capitalism." Thats what Cassius is trying to say I think. The lack of need to worry about the basics frees people to worry about stupid **** and the result is Seattle.

Her hands are tied as there is no support nor cooperation from city leaders. Now once the Mayor's house was the scene of a protest, the Mayor started to come around by allowing them to dismantle the CHOP/CHAZ.
