In my opinion, too much emphasis has been placed on collegiate and processional sports.

I say this as former Houstonian and former Ag that used to support TAMU.

This year, sports will not be important to our day to day and my children will not watch TAMU football.

My children are not gong to TAMU.

Hate to say it, but it seems most all colleges are trending in the same direction

Guess what?

TAMU doesn't give a flying F.

Nor should they.

You wanna guess how many kids over the last decade would have loved for a spot on the A&M campus instead of a stint at Blinn + re-apply?

Truth is, for every parent who thinks they are standing tall by taking their kid off the admission rolls...there are probably 10 parents who will happily send their child in place.

You think you're doing something to make an impact. You are not.

I'm trying to entertain myself in other ways too.

I won't make a stand about watching or not watching because I will likely watch some aggie football when the time comes, but I have decided to not spend a dime on it and will be able to stick to that.

I tried to watch the NBA the other day and seeing the name of a marxist/racist organization over and over got old and I changed the channel. I wish the NBA could have gone woke without jumping in bed with that evil organization. Just put the word "All" in front of it like Terry Crews said and it becomes something different that I could stand behind because it is not that organizations name. #AllBlackLivesMatter

This will be the first year that I haven't watched Aggie football. Going to do camping, hunting, and fishing instead.

Theres really no way to escape it without harming yourself. Any other university is going to have the same problems. All you can do is hope you taught your kids well enough and they can weather the bullcrap for 4 years.

Not so fast there sport. A&M most likely will maintain a high enrollment, hell it seems like their goal is to hit 100k enrollment anyway. But the difference will become when an A&M degree holds no more weight than a degree from Sam Houston, UTSA or god forbid Sul Ross University, then it will matter.

Except you're wrong. If even 25% of us walk away from sports forever and teach our kids to reject pro/college sports as a means of spending free time, it will cripple them. Especially if we are the top 25% of wage earners.

The OPs point is primarily about sports. Not sure why y'all are latching on so hard to enrollment.

TAMU may have some issues, issues that the vast majority of people don't think or know about, TexAgs just amplifies things into existential crises.

But A&M is still far and away better that almost all other universities. Maybe we're ****ed, but the other legitimate options are way more ****ed.

The college bubble will pop soon. The joke is on the families who think sending their kid to an expensive 4 year university (including A&M now) will get them that head start. Maybe if you're pre Med then go on to Med school. Or a specialized engineering degree.

It's amazing how many families still have their head in the sand on this issue.

I'm going to give my children the best possible education I can and then send them on their way. My hope is that they choose a profession that they love. I used to believe I would want them to go to A&M, now it is just another college. Nothing special. But from all of this I also believe that if they chose to pursue a trade I would be just as proud (maybe more so) than if they went the college route. My wife is not quite there yet, but I she'll come around. I just think average, ordinary colleges, like A&M, are generally poisonous and add little to a developing mind. Might as well use those years to work on building a career instead of learning how to tear down a society.

Yeah, well you know what?...That bubble of 9 out of 10 parents using student loans to pay TAMU ridiculous fees and increases in tuition will only last so long before it bursts.

Sure, parents and students may line up to apply, but paying for it is a completely different story. Couple that with Aggie football defunding and you are looking at a significant deficit in maintaining the structural costs that Texas A&M has invested in.

Already with online enrollment and fear produced from Covid, the State of Texas is facing a budget shortage and every department across TAMU has been asked to reduce their budget by 7% outright. RIFs are ongoing people are losing jobs.

A 13 Billion dollar endowment is nice, but a lot of that is tied to O&G monies that ain't to hit right now. The TAMU System has significantly expanded the area of campus, multiple new endeavors in Dallas, Houston, Rellis, South Texas, etc. and someone needs to pay for it. Again, couple that with the growth of CS and if student numbers don't line up, there will be a bust.

Yes people will apply. We shall see how many actually get in.

My kids are badass students and badass people. None of them would struggle to get into A&M.

I'm not interfering to say they can't go to A&M, but they'll certainly hear from me that I wouldn't give A&M any extra consideration based on values that USED to be a much bigger part of the culture.

They are going to have to look hard to find the can do spirit and commonality - and there are other schools they are just as likely to find it as they would at A&M.

I'm at the same.pint you are regarding education. Likewise, my wife hasn't come around yet. What she does agree with is that, at this point, our kids are probably better served going Juco the first couple of years before going to a four-year to finish up.

My oldest wants to be a Vet. I'd probably foot the bill at A&M for that. The youngest may have other opportunities she want us to explore. I'm good with whatever as long as we maintain financial discipline.

A&M ain't what it used to be.

This is coming from a Liberal Arts major... but A&M, like most Universities, is a compete waste of money and time. No way I would recommend sending your kids there unless they are majoring in Engineering or Agriculture.

Much better off getting some practical education or on the job training without all of the leftist bull**** for a fraction of the cost.

That's the real danger. Especially if you go back to `jobless recovery' and `new normal' of Democrat policies. There won't be massive hirings going on.

And the campus system is increasingly looking like it just produces bad citizens. Maybe getting rid of Liberal Arts for a time might help, especially any that were not of the classic curriculum, say, from pre-1980 classes.
