The group plans to wear red and rally at Houston city hall on Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon to "elevate the issue of period poverty and demand real change to making period products more accessible for all and ending the 'tampon tax,'" the organization said in a statement.

According to the nonprofit, one in four women cannot afford period products due to a lack of income. In a study, researchers found that 46 percent of low-income women had to choose between a meal and period products.

Doesn't a box of Tampons work out to about 20 cents per tampon?

Yeah, but with the 'tampon tax' it jumps up to 21.5 cents

Are tampons or pads really that expensive that they break the bank? They're what? 10 bucks a month?

So after a bit of reading, there is no actual tampon tax?

It's just that liberal psychos believe they should be considered a tax exempt item, such as fresh meat and vegetables?

I want to be as far from pink ***** hat wearing progressive protesters as the next guy, but I think there's a case to be made to consider personal hygiene products as a tax free item. They're purchased regularly right along with the groceries and considered a necessity in our society.

Of course, .gov gonna take it out of you somewhere else to make up for it.

They could go old testament. No cost in that, well accept for the turtledove to the priests as a burnt offering. This would allow the male priest to certify them clean which would mean they could be touched again.

Isn't "the tampon tax" just the same 8.25% sales tax that's applied to bath soap, Kleenex, toothpaste, and a zillion other things that are important for hygiene but don't attract feminist attention because both sexes use them?

Not being a female, I haven't paid much attention to the price of tampons. But a quick Google search shows that a box of 96 can be bought for $14.55, which works out to just over 15 cents per tampon. Estimating that the average woman goes through 20 tampons per month, that's a little over $3.

HuffPo says the cost for a lifetime of tampons is $1,773.

So the sales tax portion of that would be $141.15.

They also say women need them from 12 to 52, so 41 years. That's $3.44 a year, or 29 cents a month of tax.

That's certainly something worth spending $20 worth of gas and a day of lost wages to protest.

And note how they include chocolate as a legitimate cost of menstrual care.
