or, what I think works really well, "invite some guys that are asking questions at your softball fellowship to form a small group intent on growing spiritually".

Yeah I view it as a sales funnel. Easy going, fellowship events are there to cast nets and get people involved. They are about growing out as much as they are about growing within. But its easy to stay in the fun stuff and resist going deeper.
