Howdy Ags! This is my wife's account, but today I am using it to ask about churches we should check out. Quick back story, our last child is moving out, so we are moving to Bryan end of April to retire there. I am class of "88. We would feel most at home in a non-denominational or Baptist church based on our preferences and history. Since all the kiddos are gone, we are looking for a church strong in teaching, preaching, life groups, and Sunday School. Normally we like a smaller to mid-size church where we can get involved in ministry. I like to teach, and my wife is involved in a great prison ministry called Bridges to Life. Okay, won't bore you with our life story, would appreciate any advice here from those of you who live down there already. Thanks.

My wife and I attend Grace Bible Church, specifically the Anderson Campus. It may be a little bigger than you have in mind, but I will say, they do an excellent job of being welcoming, getting people involved in smalls groups, and having service opportunities for those who want them. It's a much bigger church than I've ever been involved in, and at the same time feels like the closest/most connected.

I'm also involved in a men's ministry through GBC at their Southwood Campus called First Call. We meet on Tuesday mornings at 6 AM, currently going through a semester-long study on 2 Timothy.

Y'all/you are more than welcome to join us/me for either of the above, any time!

Thanks garrettc16. Yes, it does sound like your church could be larger than we like, but in looking up your website, we would definitely fit well with your goals and beliefs.

I went to the website and am intrigued by the Evangelism mentioned Saturdays. I wish more churches did that in a loving manner of course.

What does that entail?

And we started at Grace but chose Brazos Fellowship after our student daughter switched. Very similar and BF has more people our age. And I got into a great Bible study group Friday mornings so God wanted us there.

Pastor here is John Ferguson - in my life I don't think I have ever encountered a better man. If I lived in BCS again I would be there.

When I was there (late 90s / early 2ks) Grace and Central had great reputations for being solid bible teaching churches. Both were larger but pushed small groups; my experience is that plugging into one can make a large church feel much smaller in a hurry.

When I was a student at Texas A&M from 2013 to 2017, I went to the Church in College Station. Members of the local churches usually refer to their congregations as "the church in (city name). I am currently meeting with the Church in Austin. I like how we sing hymns, and then someone gives an opening word. After that, the members get to speak for up to 2 minutes about what they enjoyed in the weeks' reading. I like this practice because numerous people get to share what they enjoyed and helped build the body instead of one man preaching. Since the pandemic started, we have been meeting virtually, but the format has remained intact.

Currently 3, with a 4th to soon open.

Anderson - Behind the HEB on Texas.
Southwood - By A&M Consol. HS
Creekside - South College Station

This Fall GBC - Bryan Mid-Town will be opening, on South College.

And the invite above is extended to everyone, not just OP. If anyone would like to join the Mrs. and me on Sunday morning or me for the men's group on Tuesday morning, don't hesitate to let me know!

I'd recommend Holy Cross Lutheran https://www.holycrossbcs.org It is not non-denominational at all, but it is a Gospel centered church with a great family atmosphere. They are also building a new sanctuary right now behind the Mercedes/Hyundai dealerships off of HWY6.

Hope you find the right place for you...Gig Em and God Bless!
