Why don't they add more books to the Bible?

If the New Testament is all about the life of Jesus and the spreading of his message across the earth, then why haven't they added more books about that spread? I would think a book about Constantinople, Ferdinan and Isabella of Spain, Alfred the Great, would all be great additions to the story of how Christianity became the biggest religion in the world.

The Bible isn't a history book. It's a manual for life.

Plus it has to be from authors from long enough ago that there is no other info about them to question that every word they wrote was inspired by God.

Valid Christian writings other than the Bible have always existed and continue to be written.

The Bible is our "measuring stick" to determine the validity of any writing. You may write or read anything that you would like. If you are conflicted about the validity or accuracy you should speak to your priest.

My library has probably a couple hundred Christian writings that are not the Bible.

In today's climate we cannot even get an agreement on translation. The council that approved the list of books for the Bible was a unified orthodox/catholic council.

Today, if for some reason they wanted to, the Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church or any of the hundreds or thousands of other groups try to add books to the Bible the other groups would simply reject it as heretical.

The Bible is very much so a history book. It is many things and one of them is a history book. The Old Testament's value to the Jews was almost entirely as a history book.

It was written while in exile due to fear of the faith being eroded and eventually forgotten if forced to continue to live in a foreign land and culture .

For as often as I've heard people reference verses from the book of Hezekiah, you'd figure that would be added at some point.

The problem with that is that to be a history book, it has to actually tell only true stories.

One requirement for canonicity is apostolic origin. None of those are apostolic.

No thanks. Everytime you add books to the Bible you have to go door to door telling everyone about it.

Good question by the OP.

Along the same thought process of how can Israel exist when all the Muslims in the world hate it. A billion Muslims cant bring down 8 million Jews in an area about the size of New Jersey? Why?

or how did Israel defeat all its neighbors in just 6 days in 1998?

Some say because of the backing of the USA but the USA has backed other countries that failed with less hostile world attitudes.

Could it be that God loves Israel and owns the written word and no matter that the majority of the world wants the Bible gone it somehow mysteriously stands.

Most Christians believe the writings of the Bible indicating we r n the time of the great fallen away of people leaving the church as written by John in revelations. Thousands of churches in America are closing each month.

Christ teaches his followers to love mankind, to follow the 10 commandments, to love a live without sin. What is wrong with that, why would anyone spend endless hours in this forum ridiculing people that mean no harm to them? Folks cursing the God of their fore fathers is really strange but predicted by John.

Well nothing is stopping you from reading this history of the Church. Not sure why such needs added to the biblical canon.

Couple problems with this - Muslims don't universally hate Jews, for one thing. Saudi Arabia and Egypt are two of Israel's biggest silent partners in the Middle East.

Two - the only thing guaranteeing Israel's existence at this point are their nuclear bombs.
