I was going to suggest either Plato's Timaeus or Descartes Principles of Philosphy, but we can also read a "war is bad" book.

Seriously though, just having heard the Hardcore History account of the WW1 Western Front it sounds like hell on Earth
lol yeah WWI sounds horrible, although much of the psychological impacts you see in veterans of all wars. I can't read that book without struggling to make it through, as it resonates so strongly.

But your books are fine too .

Seriously though, it seems to be about 200 pages. Start a thread, and I should be able to chime in sometime next week

Howdy-do, Marco? Feliz Viernes!

Do you have any concern that the progressive PC culture has become so embedded into learning institutions that the liberal monolith potentially suppresses outcomes research and scientific truth?

What are you talking about and why are you talking about it in a philosophy thread?

He's saying universities are supposed to be centers of free thinking. But nowadays they aren't. You either tow the line of the liberal, progressive, PC culture, or they tell you to get ****ed. Not exactly a culture conducive to plumbing the depths of the human condition searching for the truth and the good life and all that stuff...

For a person trying to spread the benefits of philosophy, you don't seem too cognizant of the most pressing issues in modern philosophy and higher education...

Maybe he should start a thread about that and in the meantime he can tell us about the philosophers that have impacted his life instead of trolling me. How does that sound?

Don't think he was trolling you, maybe a little snarky (like how I was in my post, but that never hurt no one), but not trolling. And answering him wouldn't derail the thread. If anything it'd sustain it. This thread was dead for 2 days before I posted.

Maybe so but i'd rather jab a rusty nail in my ear hole than get sucked into an axe grinding session about higher education.
