One of the most controversial subjects within charismatic circles is David Wilkerson's The Vision, which he claimed to have had in 1973. He is a compelling and convicting preacher and some of what he had seen has come to pass. For those of you who are younger, you may not recall the 1950s and early 1960s when society was much more restrained and sexuality was NOT advertised openly. His words regarding the epidemic of pornography, sexual promiscuity, generational warfare and widespread social backlash against Christians are prescient.

One of his more controversial predictions is a confederation of the Roman Catholic Church and liberal ecumenical Protestants who unite politically against evangelical/charismatic Christians to conduct a campaign of intense persecution

Did he mention the cause of this? Because, IMO, any backlash that we've seen is more due to the angry and coercive way Christians in America have been. There was the Barna Group study a few years ago that asked non-believers 16-29 years of age to give 3 words to describe American Christians. The top 3 were "angry", "anti-gay" and "judgmental". In other words, we aren't exactly known for our love.

As Jude notes, the last of the days are marked by rampant apostasy. It's prophesied ALL religions (which very much includes contemporary culturally modified christianity), shall amalgamate against Biblical believers.

Have you ever read The Cross and The Switchblade? Another good read of his is Twelve Angels from Hell. I still watch sermons (now preached by Carter Conlon) preached from Times Square Church.

Peter Marshall certainly addressed it prior to his death

While he was thankful for his adopted country (the US)
Quote:

Out of profound gratitude for my adopted country, I can only say that I would like in this land to live and die, and while I live to help other people as much as possible, believing that only in service to other people can I possibly express my gratitude for all that America has done for me. Peter Marshall

He was also one of the most forceful advocates for minority groups suffering under Jim Crow and racial oppression. Peter Marshall specifically mentioned the trend toward commercialism and secularism.

Never have read the book, but it influenced a number of people I have known.

Did the Barna Poll provide any distinction among/between Christian groups. The Azusa Street revival (which was the beginning of the modern Pentecostal movement) was started by the ministry of a black, half-blind preacher named William Armstrong in the early 1900s. Similarly, during the Cane Ridge revival (which was the node of the interdenominational 2nd Great Awakening) had records of Acts 2 like miracles, healings and "slaves and masters" dancing together in this early Charismatic Movement . Then you have racism come crashing in on both events. Satan always tries to sabotage God's work of healing and restoration.

I've read "The Cross and the Switchblade". Very inspiring and somewhat challenging book for me. I'm often leary of charismatic-type claims. But it was good inspiration to remember that God is powerful and on the move.
