Sad to see this one. She had a great career.

She always made me think of my grandmother. She was an independent and opinionated woman, but so endearing.

Definitely the only person I can picture as Professor McGonagall. Gonna miss her on screen

Like James Earl Jones and Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith was amazing and unique. She brought something indefinitely "her" to every role I have ever seen her in. Too often overshadowed by bigger name leads, she could steal scenes effortlessly.

Great actress. Wonderful artist.

RIP, Maggie Smith.

Screen presence was through the roof. Elite screen presence. First-ballot hall of fame screen presence.

Maggie Smith walked through a movie with the kind of gravitas few people have. Underrated comedic chops, too. My sisters and I used to watch "Murder By Death" all the time and she was hilarious in that one.

Despite being in so many iconic roles, every time I hear her name I think of this scene.

100%

I can't imagine anyone else embodying that roll.

Loved this one as a kid. Thanks for the reminder. I need to show it to my kiddos now.

Much respect to the Dowager. She stole the show so many times. RIP

I was never a huge fan but I did enjoy her in Downton Abbey.

What I really remember her for is "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," which I saw at the Campus Theater in 1969 or so.

At the time, I was not deep enough or well-read enough to understand the politics and history that the movie is concerned with, but I did appreciate the character development.

Smith won best actor and Rod McKuen's theme song "Jean" was ubiquitous for many months.

It's a movie that repays a careful look, even today.
