Didn't say she's hideous, nor am I "mad" at you. TC, you always seem to read some enraged tone into any response that differs from yours and I don't think it's usually there. Movies or aspects of movies tend to annoy me, at most, I can't think of a lot of times where I'm actually pissed at a movie or you for liking one more than I would.
My point though is just that she's miscast here. I guess they're just going for name recognition and a trending actor (don't get how she's trending), but if a studio was honestly sitting there thinking...we need someone who looks like they might be good at tennis AND someone who multiple male tennis stars would fall in love with and possibly have conflict over, it's just weird that they'd pick someone who literally wouldn't turns heads walking through a college campus. Not saying she's super unattractive, not saying she can't act, just a weird choice for this particular role, for ME. Out of the last 15-20 years of Hollywood "it girls" of the season, she's definitely in a small collection of ones I don't really get, but it's whatever.
These studios aren't picking based on hotness. They're picking based on who puts butts in seats. Zendaya does, and they had to pay her $10M to do it. The movie probably doesn't even get made unless she, specifically, says yes. It's a numbers game, and nothing more.
That said… it's kind of crazy how convinced you are without actually having seen the movie first (though that's par for the course on TexAgs). Because A) she's 100% believable in it as a female tennis phenom. She practiced/trained relentlessly, and absolutely pulls that aspect off. She's honestly more believable than either of the two guys. And B) while, again, I generally agree with everyone that she's not traditionally hot… this is the definitely hottest she's been on screen. There are multiple scenes not in the trailer - that probably
couldn't be in the trailer - that caused me to reevaluate somewhat in that regard.
