Overall I really liked it. Actually preferred it over The Wire (blasphemy I know).

I never felt sympathy for Shane's character but not gonna lie the way he died and took his family with him really ended up getting to me even though you could see that ending coming from him a mile away. I felt bad.

Throughout the series I wondered if Vic would ever make himself at least a little likeable and it never really happened. Thought he might develop like Tony Soprano or Walter White or even Jacks Teller but while those 3 had moments of likeablelity I don't think Vic ever got there.

The finale was really well done imo.

Oof, I never could like WW. The entire time I was watching BB I wished that I was rewatching the shield

The Shield is my favorite show of all time. My brother and I talk about episodes of it like it's on TV still.

I could listen 10,000 favorite moments of mine.

The sequence where Dutch catches the serial killer and then has an emotional breakdown in the bathroom is maybe the most captivating thing I've ever watched; particularly when you look back and realize that the serial killer is a young Phil Coulson.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I was glued to this show as it aired. One of my absolute favorites. Yeah it had some misses like any show, but overall I found it riveting. I need to do a rewatch because I haven't seen it since it aired. It had the absolute perfect ending for Vic.

It was also one of the first things I ever recorded on Tivo when my wife and I got one.

I happened to catch the first episode at like 1 AM on FX after I got home late from work and was so blown away I went out and bought Season 1 on DVD from Best Buy the next day. Then came the binging where I'd be up at 1 a.m. thinking "Well, with no commercials, it's only another 43 minutes long, that's barely half an hour, yup I can watch one more>"

The Shield is probably one of the shows I have recommended to people the most over the years.

Pilot was made with no commitment at all to keep making more episodes so they had to get everything they could into that. I think it makes it even all the more better that they were able to come up with more pretty good material as the show went on.

3 days later and I'm still disturbed about how Shane went out!

Shane and Lemonhead's deaths are godawful. Ivalso remember thinking at times. But then the show gives you stuff like Cletus Van Damne and Dutch and Shane solving a murder together.

I thought they were taking Dutch in another direction when during the middle of the run he strangled the cat. Then they never really mentioned it again.

Also, a little surprised they kind of left Julian's orientation kinda out there as the show ended. I mean ya he's gay, but ok so he just married and prayed away his gayness and it was gone? Wasn't a detriment in the ending at all for me just thought they'd tie it up some but to be honest not every aspect of every show needs to be tied up .

Dutch was a fantastic character, and Steve Billings his eerie doppleganger.

I really admire Dutch's ballsiness to try and nail Vic's ex-wife.

Plus the work of Anthony Anderson's career, other than his role as fat black guy in Transformers.

Yeah it was weird that it never came back up. I remember Vic smoking out his boyfriend and using it as leverage but not much after that. If you didn't know, the actor who played him went on to murder his wife and is now serving life in prison. Awful thing.

Oh man, The Shield is one of my favorite shows ever. I guess it's been over 10 years since I watched it. I'm going to have to re-watch and try to get wife into it this time.

Initially my favorite of all time (though I think now it has been surpassed by Breaking Bad and Justified). It was the first truly gritty cable series. Like NYPD Blue on steroids.

Great casting, great storylines, best ending of any series IMO.

IMDB gave his other stuff good marks, but I watched a few Shawn Ryan shows after The Shield and never felt they even came close.

That is such a good ending. The way they go from celebrating to that HOLY SHEET look on their faces. I really want to watch it again now.

The look on Shane's face... This entire series was a coming out party for Goggins. He rolled into Justified after this as essentially "must watch" type TV actor.

If we're posting videos, I'm going to take the rest of the day off work.

Dutch destroys the serial killer - a young, unrecognizable Clarke Gregg - in front of the whole station. I love the small touch that in the clubhouse, Vic gets almost immediately what Dutch is doing while the rest of the Strike Team thinks he's a clown until they realize he's not.

And this! Which somehow I've never seen, a cast reunion with Shawn Ryan in 2018. An hour long.

Seeing Vic and Aceveda hugging each other is bizarre.

One of my favorite scenes is when they're chasing a pederass into a shed. They send in the GSD and the perp starts screaming. The Handler looks at Vic and asks if he should call his dog off, "That guy was molesting little kids" handler just sort of nods and you can hear the dog continuing to eff that guy up.

Holy smokes Dutch is/was tall!

Ya I read up on Michael Jace that is crazy. Killed his wife out of pure jealous suspicion right in front of his kids, calmly called his in laws to tell em what he'd done, now locked up for life.

He does the same sort of thing when they go after the cop killers in some abandoned apartment building or something. Tells the unis, "they killed X, y, and Z". Then I think he finds the badge of a dead cop on one of the suspects and stabs it into the guy's chest.

I think that's Michael Kelly, not Clarke Gregg (from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), but maybe that's a joke I'm missing.

Never watched the series, but I like Kelly, Scroggins, et al. I enjoyed Kelly's character in the various Jack Ryan seasons. He was good in House of Cards. Apart from the hair he's aged very well.

I thought Forest Whitaker deserved awards for his acting on the show. He was fantastic.

Need to go back and rewatch.

Finale was incredible and Shane's death is still rough to think about.

We had The West Wing, Sopranos, 24, The Shield, and Six Feet Under all at once, and some were on freaking NBC and Fox.
I dont thik I could imagine a show like West Wing on a NBC again.

My golden era of dramatic TV

The Shield:: 2002-2008
Battlestar Galactica: 2003-2009
Lost: 2004-2010

Now granted I got married in '09 and had kids in '12, but I don't think I've watched any dramatic series other than stuff on HBO and streaming since then. Certainly none on network TV. In fact, I just thought to myself, I can't name a single show on network TV right now, other than Survivor.

I watched the show while it was still on, and re-watched it again about 10 years ago. But this thread brings back so many memories, I think it's time to revisit it.

Top 3 favorite show of all time and I just retrieved my box set a couple months ago and have been ready for a rewatch.

I'll never forget my buddy in 2005 or whenever not realizing I was behind and he referenced Shane dropping a hand grenade in Lemansky's lap. He felt so bad for the spoiler and I wanted to throw a grenade in his stupid face.We laugh about it to this day.

Someone accidentally spoiled the IceTruckKiller for me in Dexter in a similar way.
