Most of the greats already covered but I'll add Michael Kelso, Red Foreman, and Barney Stinson.
My personal favorite is Ron Swanson but the answer to the original question is Michael Scott.

All of those are great choices.

This is my favorite Kelso scene of the entire series. God, love this scene...

Jerry Stiller as Frank Costanza stole every scene he was in. Part of it was the writing that they did for Frank, and part of it was Stiller just being a stone cold killer in that role.

I'm probably in the minority here but I actually thought he was better in KoQ. And I actually loved him in Seinfeld.
Yep. Way more important to the overall show, and as a result, his character had a lot more development over nine seasons (and great lines).

Seinfeld would have been nothing without Kramer and Elaine

Kramer had some classic scenes in the show but George was the embodiment of Larry David, who was the heart of Seinfeld. Kramer added broad, slapstick comedy which was very popular. George added awkward, uncomfortable comedy which was virtually unheard in a sitcom until Seinfeld. Arrested Development and The Office later brought it into the mainstream.

Seinfeld with just Jerry, Elaine, and Kramer may not even make it a full season.

Seinfeld with Jerry, Elaine, Kramer, and George became one of the greatest comedies of all time.

Kramer was fun and unique but George imo was the most pivotal character on the show and it's not even close .

I mean... I don't think a 30 minute video of Kramer scenes would have me laughing as much as this does:

George won a constant

Speaking of, seems majority of folks on this thread choose George over Kramer, yet the poll we had a while back (https://texags.com/forums/13/topics/3263049/17) had Kramer winner.

Coach was funnier and a better character than Woody.

I think there needs to be two (or three) separate character discussions.

Lead - like Michael Scott or Lucy or Archie Bunker
Supporting - like Kramer or Coach
Occasional - like Newman

Just a couple throwbacks. . . I don't watch Gilligan's Island much anymore, but I think Thurston Howell's character makes me laugh more now than he did as a kid...

So did the Meathead (thanks to Archie)

Tobias Funke (among others from that show)

Krammer is an original. Maybe the most unique sitcom character all time.

I think we can all agree that Ann was the best character from Arrested Development and certainly one of the most memorable characters ever.

I think Al Bundy was pretty unique. Every comedian reading for that role went with an Archie bunker impersonation and ed oneill the dramatic actor came up with the self deprecating approach.

Also I think Richards used his kramer style first on UHF.

Kramer is the worst part about Seinfeld, similar to Phoebe from Friends. Just not my kind of "comedy"
