I almost want to describe this as a sweet little movie that is a perfect continuation of the first movie and one that tries to keep everything about it sincere.

No it is not a "great" movie or a must see movie, but it 100% delivers on what they obviously wanted it to be, even if it feels quite a bit dated.

It relies on a lot of rehashing plot and nostalgia to carry it, but if you like or loved the original, you might enjoy this as well.

So disappointed . Turned it off about an hour in.

Once I knew it was somewhat free to watch I lowered my expectations drastically. Which I should have done when joe dirt 2 came out but even then that wouldn't have helped that movie.

Except Joe dirt 2 wasn't free. It was just crappy.

I loved Joe Dirt, is this C2A sequel really Joe Dirt 2 bad?

No it's not. C2A is just.....ok. Which "ok" for a Coming to America sequel is disappointing.

The original Coming to America is vastly overrated.

I actually thought this was way better than it had any business being.

I had REALLY low expectations though.

anyone who had high expectations about this one was probably also disappointed by Chinese Democracy.

Eddie Murphy should just make movies for Wesley Snipes to star in

Coming to America has 3-4 scenes funnier than any movie I've seen in the last 20 years.

I thought this was pretty damn good all things considered. Def not a classic like the first (overrated? lol ok) but definitely enjoyed it.

Coming to America is great, I came in to this one with low expectations and still thought it was pretty terrible.

Agreed. I didn't expect much coming in and it still sucked.

Leslie Jones and Tracy Morgan were great in their roles as Leslie Jones and Tracy Morgan. Just like everything else they've been in.

The barber shop guys and Randy Watson cracked me up. That was about it.

I hung in about 20 minutes and dropped. A complete abortion that disgraced the memory of the original.

Started strong.
Middle 45 minutes was horrible.
Ended strong.

Literally laughed out loud at the military training techniques.

Tons of callbacks and guests. Worth it for one watch but it was built up way too much in my head as the first one is, for a lack of a better word, comedy royalty.

This thread is proof that America has completely lost a sense of humor and the ability to just laugh a little.

We did a double feature last night, my son asked how I knew every line of the original.
I liked the second, I laughed a few times, what else can you ask for? I'd watch it again to catch more references. It does drag a little in the middle though. However, the original dragged in the beginning too. It took longer than I remembered to get to America.
I'd watch a third focused on the eldest daughter, I thought she was really good and got short shrift in this.

It was never going to live up to the original, but it was an enjoyable movie.

We made it thru 20-30 minutes, until just after the son and baby mama made it to Africa, and couldn't handle any more. It's just not well done in any regard.

To put this in context: we had just recently watched Coming to America together and our kids really enjoyed it, but my older son was the first to punch out on this one.

Does it get any better? Someone above said it started strong, and if that's accurate relative to the rest of the movie, well, ugh.

Yeah General Izzi and the Nextdorians were good for laughs.

The guys in the barbershop were strong (you can't even grab a tit anymore without getting fired).

King Jaffe Joffer was good.

The new American characters (Lavelle, Tracy Morgan and Leslie Jones) all kind of sucked.

Still it was better than I thought it would be. Didn't have a problem finishing it. Probably won't ever watch it again, but I don't feel like it was wasted time nor did it taint the original which I was afraid it might.

Agree a lot with your take.

I like Snipes as General Izzi, it was a clever satire of African warlords.

And how could you not like the introduction of Bopoto?

Arsenio Hall as Baba was excellent.

It had some funny scenes, but nowhere near the quality of the original. There are definitely worse ways to spend two hours.

My take that no one asked for: judging it as a movie, it's basically hot garbage. But, there is enough fan service and random cameos that I didn't regret taking the time to watch it as a big fan of CtA. The Fresh Peaches and Sugar Cube cameo at the end actually made me laugh out loud for some reason
