My 11 year old loved Stranger Things and is looking for others series that are age appropriate and fun, or maybe even in the same genre.

We have Prime, Hulu, Netflix, Disney+ and YoutubeTv as far as platform access.

Thoughts?

My kids loved A Series of Unfortunate Events at that age. They follow the book series (2 episodes per book) and its 3 seasons total.

^ Yes! It's a fantastic take on the books. Hilarious for adults too, IMO.

Buffy the vampire Slayer or Veronica Mars. If your sixth grader is a girl.

Veronica Mars is a bit old for a sixth grader for content related to sex IMO.

For an Amazon Prime option a clean series is Gortimer Gibbons and Life on Normal Street.

Is Cobra Kai really appropriate for 11 year olds? I haven't watched yet but assumed it was a lot darker and more R rated than the movies.

Or if you're sixth grader is a boy, prepare for the puberty to hit immediately.

Super 8

Although it is a movie it is worth a watch.

it's TV-14 and has some language and adult stuff. Depends on the 11 year old. Prescreen the first couple episodes if not sure.

I thought Cobra Kai was pretty aggressive. Closer to R than PG-13 in my opinion. But it is so well done and tackles so many different teenage (and adult) angles that it's probably worth it for the conversation starters with your kids.

I tried to watch Cobra Kai with my 7, 13 and 15 year old boys and we had to bail after a few episodes. It was too much for the 7 year old, which was a shame because he loved the Karate Kid movies. It was one of the few shows all 4 of us could enjoy together, just way too many bad words and dick jokes occurred as Mom passed through the room.

The new Enola Holmes movie that just came out is
supposedly pretty good. Kid friendly. No cursing, and not much blood.

How are both those shows for girls? Just because the main characters are female?

Buffy is awesome for all genders and Veronica Mars tackles some pretty heavy themes. I would say more for around 12-13. I would definitely start it before high school. Some great lessons there.

I am curious how kids now would appreciate something like Buffy. When they are used to the production value of shows like Stranger Things, Buffy is awfully campy and aged. I love it, but don't know about that generation.

Our 6th and 3rd grader love the Jurassic Park animated series Camp Cretaceous.

Sure, it is nearly the same plot as all movies...."Hey isn't this awesome"....dinos try to eat humans....resolution, but it is very good.
