I wasn't a huge fan when Staley was alive, mainly b/c I only knew their hits that got a lot of radio play. But I've grown to love them as I've listened more and more over the last couple of years (also really makes me miss Layne; dude was so talented).

Here are my top 5 favorite songs. What are yours?

Honorable Mention: I Stay Away
5. Heaven Beside You
4. Rooster
3. Again
2. Don't Follow

That's like asking me to choose which of my relatives I'd save from a fire, if my relatives were *****in' hard rock tunes.

It's probably Them Bones, with Rooster a close second. Very slightly under the radar honorable mention would be Dam That River.

Them Bones is certainly #1 for me. Followed closely by Man in the Box. Don't follow, Sea of Sorrow, Nutshell, Bleed the Freak. Just to name a few. I really don't think there is one I don't like.

ETA: Forgot about Dam that River but since someone else mentioned it, I like that one too. And any other song anyone mentions hereafter.

Yeah, I could have swapped in 5 others (but couldn't leave off my top 2). Tempting to leave a song like Rooster off since it's such a big hit and still gets a lot of radio play. But it's still such a great song.

Not really like a lot of their other stuff but "Don't Follow" is my fave.

Also, their new stuff is pretty decent. "Ranier Fog" is a gem.

die hard fan here.. surprised, but not surprised it's 98% classic aic in here.

Black gives way to blue is a phenomenal album. Title track has a nutshell feel, private hell has a down in a hole feel, your decision has a no excuses feel.

I haven't given enough listens to the newer stuff yet, but certainly will. Also there's a lot of solo Jerry stuff I haven't checked out yet. Do they still perform their classic songs? I can't imagine that would be easy for Duvall and the band. Especially songs like Nutshell and Down in a Hole.

Absolutely. I've seen them ~-8-10 times with William. Every show is majority classic with 2-3 of whatever most recent album, plus another 1-2 of modern AIC.

William nails Layne imo.

Here is last headline show in Denver

Check My Brain
Again
Never Fade
Them Bones
Dam That River
Hollow
Down in a Hole
No Excuses
Stone
We Die Young
Red Giant
Nutshell
So Far Under
Angry Chair
Man in the Box
The One You Know
Got Me Wrong
Would?
Rooster

and the one before that in 2016.

Hollow
Them Bones
Dam That River
Again
Check My Brain
Nutshell
Angry Chair
Man in the Box
Your Decision
Down in a Hole
Stone
Last of My Kind
We Die Young
Got Me Wrong
It Ain't Like That

I saw them at Winstar/Thackerville post-Black Gives Way to Blue and pre-The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.

William does just fine.

So much of AIC's sound is ultimately derived from the harmony that Jerry provides. You just need a Layne approximation tonally with the same range, and Jerry feels in the sweet sad sound.

Though I prefer the original lineup stuff, I wholly agree on black gives way to blue. It is outstanding.

When I was still living in NYC, I got to go to a listening party for the album before it was released. They did passed appetizers and free drinks, then the band did a quick intro, and then they hit play and turned down the lights. Was pretty badass to see how giddy they were.

Been listening to them a lot again in the last year or so, and their music holds up so well. Black Gives Way To Blue has some great tunes, and I enjoy the more recent albums as well.

My current favorite AIC track is probably So Close.

I'm glad they managed to release their self-titled/"Tripod" album and then perform Unplugged, despite the shape Layne was rumored to be in.
