I'm not sure why this jumped into my head last night but I was watching an episode Band Of Brothers with my junior high daughter, partially due to her having asked several questions about D-Day this week. At one point during the episode she asked a question about something that had happened, we paused it, and it lead to a pretty in depth discussion about WW2, aspects leading up to it, and some of the resulting issues after it ended. While this episode of BoB wasn't a "teacher" per se it got me wondering about other films (not documentary) that "taught" you a lot about a particular subject or lead you to research more about someone/something? Or maybe it was a movie that you feel taught you about something that wasn't historical but psychological, emotional, etc.



One that jumps into mind for me was reading about Inside Out after we watched it with the kids. They apparently consulted multiple psychologists and "experts" as they were piecing that one together and many of them feel that it's a pretty accurate depiction of how our mind handles memories and emotions.

This is true but my access to rated R T&A in 1984 was "limited" to say the least. I don't think I even saw Fast Times until college to be honest.

Most movies have taught me that you can hit distant targets more easily with a pistol than a rifle.

Serious answer: I'll often want to learn more about real events after watching a movie. For instance, reading about the other Greeks that were at Thermopylae with the 300 Spartans.

Movies taught me that the good guy forces bad guys to be the worst shots in the history of shooting,

That dump trucks always know how to get in the way of a chase,

That kids are smarter than adults.

That it's almost always raining (or at least thundering) when something bad happens.

And that saying goodbye at the end of a phone call is less than optional.
