Will be a 5 part mini-series with an episode dropping every week. Looks fascinating, especially since I'm set to take a Chernobyl tour this summer. Surprised a full scale movie was never made over the incident.

Looks interesting. Will likely set back nuclear power another 20 years.

Looks unimaginably depressing,

Not to say the story shouldn't be told, but I am sure that's at least part of the reason it hasn't been til now. I am sure it will be well done.

Yeah, I will probably wait awhile before watching it. I do not have much desire to watch a bunch of scenes of people's skin sloughing off, puking their guts out, or what ever effects there are from radioactive exposure.

I got on a Chernobyl kick awhile back and read a few books about it. Say what you will about the commies, there were some brave men out there who knew they were going to die and went out to fight the fire and contain the site at all costs.

Definitely on my bucket list of places to visit.

If they want to end the series on a positive note, the whole region has become something of a wildlife haven. With no people, hunting etc, many populations have thrived, despite the radiation,

agree with everything - except the bold.... I'd need a REALLY big bucket for this to make the list.

yea, my quick googling tells me that some enterprising Ukrainians will tell you just don't touch anything and will show you how safe it is with some hacked chicom Geiger counter.

This looks like the kind of show that's going to make me want to shower after each episode, just to make sure.

Some did, some didn't. But they figured it out pretty quick and continued to fight.

It's actually a pretty incredibly story. I encourage everyone to continue educating themselves on this piece of history, beyond the HBO show

I'd rather they speak Russian and have subtitles. It's the only way I've ever watched "crouching tiger, hidden dragon". Screw English in foreign events depicted in American cinema.

Just finished the first episode. That was a hard watch. I can't imagine the pain they were in. The only thing worse is watching the willful ignorance of those devoted to the Soviet state and how the design was safe and anyone questioning it was ridiculed.

"Say what you will about the commies"? Those idiots wanted to see how few safety rods were neccessary to run a nuclear plant. Bravery in the face of self-stupidity.

It should be a lesson on socialism vs. nuclear power. Incompetence and sloppiness everywhere. And lack of resources to manage it properly. Not even having a working disometer available at a ****ing nuclear power plant.

Is this more anti-nuclear power or anti-Russia? What's the angle?
DannyDuberstein

The angle so far does seem to be locked in on the denial, protecting the state, incompetence, and ignorance. Which is proper. The lives of the peon workers and the nearby residents meant nothing to them.

This is what I'll say about them:

Their screwed up economic system caused this disaster. It put these brave men in the terrible position to risk their lives to attempt save their families. Socialism is the greatest evil the world has yet known.

(And, BTW 2 years later Bernie Sanders spent his honeymoon in the Soviet Union. What a naive moron.)

What pissed me off the most about this episode is when the bureaucrats forced that nuclear engineer to go on the roof to look down into the reactor when he already told them what he'd see. He did what they demanded for a few seconds which basically destroyed his face. Then he came back to the bureaucrats and continued to get yelled at, presumably because they didn't like his report.

Fantastic pilot; a pilot nearly absent the entire main cast. Don't think I've ever seen that before. Preview for the rest of the series looked incredible as well.
