Can't. Wait.

Reading that book as an 8th grader (thanks Mom) was a major point in the beginning of my love of rock music.

I am old, so I don't really follow new music but are there any bands today at a similar level of popularity that are as off the rails as the host of bands that were running around sunset in the 80's?

even with a TV-MA rating on Netflix, this still might not even scratch the surface of Crue debauchery

The book, which I enjoyed, was like the band. It tried hard to be deeper and more meaningful than it really was.

This movie will be no Bohenian Rhapsody.

Don't remember if these were from the book or Howard Stern interviews or both, but see if the film portrays these classics
- contest to see who could go longest without bathing and still get girls that were "willing"
- passing out with heroin needle still in your arm
- shooting Jack Daniels in their veins
- snorting ants with Ozzy

They were hard core. And I forgot to include Mick Mars in my deathpool list.

Don't forget the "Kickstart my heart" story which, legend says, Vince had his heart shot up with epi due to an overdose.

i tbink you'd have to look at rap/hip hop for an analog. I mean, take a guy like little Wayne. He's done time, allegedly has gang ties, has serious substance abuse issues yet is still alive and was even just recently featured at the college football national championship halftime.

Well, I hope not. Queen and Crue are apples and oranges.

I think the comparisons are going to be made with the upcoming Elton John movie.

You must have been rich. That album was released in 1989. The 1st CD players were not introduced until the mid 80s. CDs didn't start outselling tapes until almost the mid 90s.

We were suburb upoerish middle class and I was all CD by 1989. I distinctly remember getting Slippery when wet as my first CD sometime around 1987.

Yeah this is dumb. By '89/'90 CD's were hardly a "luxury". Hell we were solidly middle class and I was buying CD's as a sophomore/junior in high school then.
The reason they hadn't surpassed cassettes in sales yet at that point was because car manufacturers hadn't started replacing tape decks with CD players yet.

Nah, I saved up some money and bought a portable CD player. I forget what they were back then - $80 or something? It was probably around 1990, used to ride the bus a lot so used the crap out of it

Psssshhhh.....

CD players came out in 1982 Sony and Phillips and were $900-$1000 .... but prices dropped rapidly with more than 40 others releasing models in the next 3 years. I had a knockoff brand by Fisher in mid 1985. It was probably $300 or so - used my tips from summer waiting tables job.

CD's were what was really expensive - originally about $30 each...then about $20 by 1985. Had to be really selective on what I got on CD. Probably only had 20 or so even a year later.

It's true that cassettes still sold more - that was because of the portability primarily. Audiophiles went to CD and quickly but mostly for home listening.. The reason was even though portable players existed even in the late 80s, the anti skip technology that made them play flawlessly wasn't until the early 90s. It was 1993 when CD finally outsold cassettes. But cassettes died quick after that - basically gone by 2000.

Not sure if agree with this. As a broke college freshman, I was only buying CDs in the fall of 1987.

Just finished it. Far from perfect but I had a blast watching it.

Here's a fact checking article. Obviously not everything is 100% accurate but there's not really much in the way of major story changes like Bohemian Rhapsody.
