With a credible rumor hitting today that the new, live-action Star Wars TV series will likely be ready in time for the debut of Disney's streaming platform, set to launch in late 2019 (and is looking to rival Game of Thrones in terms of budget), it got me thinking about how much insanely great TV is hitting next year.

In addition to the usual suspects, the list of shows that skipped 2018 but are returning in 2019 is enough to get anyone excited, with Big Little Lies, Fargo, Game of Thrones, Mindhunter, Mr. Robot, Stranger Things, and Veep, among others, all set to return. Not to mention the True Detective comeback, along with Netflix's rotating Marvel offerings. And this list, of course, isn't even factoring in many of the surprise hits that will no doubt be debuting.

And just FYI, I realize there are plenty of shows missing from this list, but these are only the highlights, and only cable/streaming. That said, if there are any glaring, big-name omissions, let me know and I'll add them. In the meantime, consider what's in store for next year, and I'd be shocked if anyone can come up with a past year this packed, and this high-profile, in terms of what 2019 is offering...

Is Peak TV different from the Golden Age of TV? I always thought the group of shows you mentioned was considered the latter. "Peak" in my mind refers to the added onslaught of all these streaming platforms, but I could be wrong.

Very excited for GoT and Expanse, possibly almost equally. Also really liked Altered Carbon. Throw in stranger things and there is really a science fiction option for almost everyone.

I wish there was more fantasy options being produced, I really think there is an untapped goldmine with GoT being the only major fantasy series out there I can think of. The sweeping popularity of stranger things and success of the Expanse gives me hope that more fantasy series will be considered.

People still watch The Affair? I thought it was done at the end of last season because it seemed like they wrapped everything up in finale. Then I saw it come back this year and watched a couple of episodes and thought, "meh, I can't do this show anymore. I couldn't care less about any of these people." I think I erased it totally to not even record anymore on my DVR.

It's absolutely terrible. I had to stop after 1.5eps of the most recent season and partly because I didn't care at all what happened the season before.

First 2 were fine. Nothing great, but serviceable
