It's weird, but when your sad, sometimes you want to get sadder. Pain needs a soundtrack. Sometimes you cry, sometimesyou just sit in silence. They say what we can't say for ourselves.

Hans Zimmer wrote this piece entitled "A Small Measure of Peace".

It's not a song, but takes you on a journey.





Evanescence's My Immortal and James Blunt,Goodbye My Lover. I played them both at my wife's funeral instead of speaking. I was 28 and she was just 24.







Sia's Elsatic Heart - for when the women that come after want more than you can give.





Passenger, Let Her Go, for when it's time to get on with your life.





Adagio for Strings composed by Samuel Barber, for when something hurts but you don't what.

He stopped loving her today.

I had a friend diagnosed with cancer right when this song came out, so this holds particular meaning for me, but I really feel that Way nailed the desperation of cancer.

Oh and Dustin Kensrue's cover of Jesus Christ by Brand New is incredible if you haven't heard it.

Dave Matthews has written a lot of sad songs but if I'm in that mindset I'll go with this one. Fairly straightforward.

Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me

If you were on campus when Bonfire fell this was the song they played all the time. The radio station made an edit of it with clips from the memorial and the kids names in it. I forever associate that song with Bonfire.



ETA - the Bonfire version of that song. I don't know if this is the version the radio played in '99 but I remember it being similar at least.

George knew how to find and sing the saddest songs. The greatest opening line of any song: "He said 'I'll love you till I die,' " and then the first line of the chorus "he stopped loving her today." Heck every line in that song is gutwrenching.

Sufjan Stevens' Casimir Palaski Day gets me every time.
