Because who doesn't love a good ranking thread?

And please, keep the age limit to under, like, 50 on who you name. Keith Richards & Jimmy Page may still be kicking, but I'd like to see who will be known as this era's greats.

1. Jack White
2. John Mayer (the blues one, not the Jack Johnson one)
3. Matt Bellamy
4. Dan Auerbach
5. Blanking out on names here. Jonny Greenwood? Gary Clark Jr.?

In no particular order:

Rich Robinson - The Black Crowes
Derek Trucks
Chris Bishop - Crobot
Scott Holliday - Rival Sons
Kelley Juett - Mothership

As always with threads like this I reserve the right to update my list as my brain catches up with me.

No Dan Auerbach or Matt Bellamy love so far

To my ears, Auerbach is fine, but ultimately pretty bland and lacks creativity. Bellamy is certainly legit

Bellamy is good, I'm just not a Muse fan. I do like the Black Keys, I just think their music is simple and very repetitive.

I've certainly gained a lot of respect for John Mayer over the years. Man can play the guitar.

Here are a few videos y'all will enjoy of some of those mentioned in this thread:

I'm a huge fan of both (especially Chris Stapleton), but as far as guitar skills go, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are more talented.

It is so easy to be wrong—and to persist in being wrong—when the costs of being wrong are paid by others.

I think these two deserve to be in the discussion. My opinion is probably skewed because I've seen them live several times and was front row twice, so i got to see their technique up close.

Ritchie Kotzen and second is distant. His voice and song writing are as incredible as his chops.

I feel like I've somehow always missed what it was everyone else saw in John Frusciante.

Never heard of the guy, but I gave him a lesson. I'm not seeing it.

You're telling me you think this guy is far and away better than Jack White?

You've probably listened to the wrong stuff. Most people have.

I've listened to all of Muse's first five albums and parts of their last two. I've listened to all the Black Keys stuff.

People confuse Jack White being a great songwriter for being a great guitar player.

I think JW is a great and very unique songwriter, but I don't think he can hold RK's jock as a guitar player
