This new series from Netflix looks pretty bad ass (trailer):

In.

The words Netflix, Sci-fi, and most expensive ever have me sold.

Even when super expensive sci-fi stuff flops, I tend to enjoy it. Waterworld, Dune, I'm looking your way...

I'm pretty sure Joel Kinnaman is an artificial life form, so this should be easy for him

Had to go dig this out of 2017 as apparently no one here has been talking about it.

Fascinating looking show, sort of Blade Runner meets kick flicks. Drops on Netflix this Friday.

Really stoked for this.

Philip K Dick was too far ahead of his time. It is freaking nuts to look at everything he wrote that has made it to screen.

Somehow I managed to never read these books - I was probably waiting on the series to be complete or something.

Sounds good though, I'll binge watch it this weekend.

I think I'll download this and binge watch it on my flight next week. I never read the book, but the preview looks awesome!

I've watched the first 30 minutes -- and I have to say -- IN.

I like the future sci-fi. So far, it's gritty and somewhat violent.

I'm interested to see where this goes.

One thing I found funny is after 250 years we still haven't figured out self driving cars.

I lasted maybe 30 minutes before I turned the pilot off and this basic conceit is one of the reasons why. The timeline 250 years ago was already super advanced in terms of technology. And then it felt like the world 250 years later wasn't really all that more advanced. Not to sound like Comic Book Guy or Neil deGrasse Tyson, but it really bugs when shows/movies like this don't take into consideration the exponential advancement of technology/humanity in general. The world 200 years from now is going to be unrecognizable to us, and the world 200 years after that is going to be unrecognizable to people 200 from now. Technology/humanity is going to advance at such an increasingly rapid rate. And I get that there's no show at all if there aren't familiar human characters we can understand and relate to, but the whole conceit is just kind of dumb to me anyway. The thing about a seven year old girl getting the body of the old woman because "that's all there was" was stupid. I get how that can come across as a clever/horrifying conceit or whatever, but the economics/practicality of it just didn't make sense. Not to mention, most of the production design felt like a rip off of things we've seen a thousand times before, and I wasn't into the main character at all. So sick of the hardened/disgruntled tough guy making quip upon quip while navigating a future world. Let's see a different type of future character for once.

4 episodes in. I'm enjoying it enough to overlook the lack of progress made in 250 years as TCTTS pointed out. It's a valid point but easy to ignore.

I like the characters and action, although like most characters and action, they're a rip-off of things we've seen before. I'm looking forward to seeing the mystery unfold. Hopefully, the season finishes strong.

TC, that is frankly one of the worst excuses I have ever seen not to see something. Like I honestly don't understand how this is an issue. This is an incredibly weird future, way weirder than a lot of other sci fi worlds out there. At some point our exponential growth will slow. If you can't stand the series, I would at least recommend the book. It is some incredibly amazing speculative scifi.

Also, it is more than 250 years. Takeshi wasn't killed in the present day. The series takes place in the 26th century utilizing a technology that jumpstarted humanity based on Alien Tech. In this world they are able to teleport consciousness across all of space time. But at the same time humanity stagnated future development after the discovery of the ELDER tech. There just wasn't a need to at that point because humanity didn't need to.

I get all that. But as I said, even omitting those issiues, I just didn't think it was a very good show. Felt like something I've seen a dozen times before.

Normally I can't stand the shows my wife watches (I don't watch much preferring to read), but this one was very good. I think we watched the first 4 episodes last night.
Nothing was too over the top (except maybe all the nudity).
the plot seemed decent.
the acting was good.
I like it.

I can understand the hesitation when 200something years later nothing seems to have advanced much, But it made me think a bit of the hyperion series where when people don't really die, they don't really create and advance either.

This is one of the few shows that I will give full attention to.

I will never understand objections to simple nudity.
"Oh nos! I saw a pe-nis or a patch of hair where the vagina is located!"
"Those two people are all on top of each other naked and look like they're having sex!"

It's not like they're showing penetration or close-ups of labia, scrotums, chocolate starfish, etc..., so what's the bfd?

If you're worried about your kids seeing it, it's pretty easy to lock them out.

I don't mind it. We watch and joke "it's not porn, it's netflix".
I'm far from a prude and don't mind seeing naked bodies. Nakedness doesn't bother me.
I just think they seem to be cramming nudity into shows just for the purpose of showing boobs and butts that doesn't particularly further the story. Maybe they want to be "edgy"?
I can see people being turned off the show because of all the nudity.

On the contrary. I believe the nudity is so prevalent to highlight the fact that the human body has become essentially worthless from a societal point of view in the future. Your consciousness is your identity, not your body.

Other shows though, I agree that they do this though, not that I'm complaining.
