I thought it was actually a pretty solid list, I might have arranged things differently but I can't argue with Green Day at number 1. It was weird they picked the first album for a few bands rather than their biggest / best album (Fall Out Boy / Saves the Day).

For the TLDR here is the top 10

1) Green Day - Dookie
2) Blink 182 - Enema of the State
3) The Ramones - Rocket to Russia
4) Decendents - Milo Goes to College
5) Fall Out Boy - Take This to Your Grave
6) Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady
7) Generation X - Generation X
8) Blink 182 - Dude Ranch
9) Paramore - Riot!
10) Misfits - Walk Amount Us

Brand New is not on this list so it's invalid.

Neither is Dashboard Confessional...

I thought the same thing until I saw Rolling Stone did a separate list for "emo" bands, which included Brand New and Dashboard.

As for the pop punk list, pretty good overall but I feel there are a few bands that should have been included: Sugarcult, Mest, Goldfinger, Starting Line, All American Rejects, Fenix TX, Something Corporate.. to name a few

Is The Clash considered more punk than punk-pop? I would have thought London Calling would be ranked top 5

Good call, totally forgot about The Clash. Hard to consider them not pop punk but have The Buzzcocks, Misfits and Ramones all in the top 10.
Bruce Almighty

How are Ramones pop punk? They pretty much created the punk genre.

Top 5 (in no particular order)

My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade
Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree
Blink 182 - Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends
Good Charlotte - Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous

There are a bunch of others I could put up there, but those are the albums that I can listen to all the way through and love every song on it.

I'm with queso. A number of these bands I would consider "punk" and not pop punk. Pop punk to me is bands like yellowcard, taking back sunday, new found glory, and that sort.

The ramones, misfits and that sort are simply "punk".

Totally agree. Pop punk to me started with Blink-182. Maybe MxPx

I liked the idea of Rolling Stones actually doing a list on this genre, but I guess they felt they had to include the big punk bands to make the list feel legitimate? We've already named about 7-8 bands that should be on here instead.

NOT on the Emo "Top 40 albums" list:
The Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About
Saves the Day - Stay What You Are
The Anniversary - Designing a Nervous Breakdown

List invalid

Their definition of pop punk is much more broad then mine.

Would have Screeching Weasel "My brain hurts" much higher.

The Lillingtons "death by television" not on the list??? That list is so invalid. Should be full of screeching weasel, the queers, the lillingtons.

Was The Queers "love songs for the ******ed" on there? Can we just do our own propper list?

Don't have a problem with #1
