New show should have no Targaryens, probably no dragons, no wall...but lots more Starks and dire wolves.

LOL, jk on that last part. We know they are too expensive

The interesting thing about this new show, if they stick with their own canon, is they can sort of do whatever they want. They came up with the night king, and possibly came up with how he was created. I don't know how much Martin has about this time period in his other sources outside the main books.

I don't think the creation of the Others in the books is as clear cut as the the Night King's origin is in the show. They just kind of show up from the Land of Always Winter during the Long Night.

My post above followed the show canon; in the books, the Children used the hammer of the waters against the First Men. The Long Night came later.

Right, I'm just saying they can do whatever they want.

Wonder if they come close to capturing the success of Game

Best ending would have been Meera rolling Bran off of a cliff.

With a special cameo by Paul Rudd.

Good lord i tried to give 6 one more chance. Its so horrible i laughed when it was trying to be dramatic and grained when it was trying to be funny.

There is simply no way it was accidentally so cheap, awkward, poorly written, illogical, cheesy etc.

They must have gotten fed up with people criticizing their great work and just decided to say **** you to the fans.

I did notice a raven's crow sound snuck into the soundtrack as the dragon was sniffing danarys body. Ooooooohhh!

I'll always appreciate 7 good seasons, and just skip 8-4 and 8-6 and pretend they never happened if i ever watch again.

Speaking of the special effects GOT was notorious in the industry for wanting excellent (impossible) effects at bargain prices. They apparently burned through most of the industry in 8 seasons.

When Tyrion literally SAID the "fire and blood" line that Dany says to the people in Qarth, I almost fell off my couch rolling my eyes.

One of the most rudimentary principles of writing: show, don't tell.

That will not be an episode I revisit.

At least they're better than 5, when they went all in on meaningless shock value by having Dany burn innocent civilians because she was mad at her boyfriend. And then, oh yea, she forgot all about that and loves Jon again in the finale!!!!

This is why I wasn't a fan of people posting the odds. Bran was a huge front runner in January and it made no sense that he should be other than people who knew about the leaks. This is a form of spoiler that should not have been allowed.

Ho lee chit you went back and found a post from January to gripe about.

Btw, the show got 10 times better when I stopped reading this thread and formed my own opinion of things.

How did Sam become Grand Maester in only a few weeks? He dropped out of The Citadel after a short period without completing his studies and the Grand Maester is supposed to be the most senior Maester in the Seven/Six Kingdoms. It seemed like a huge stretch for fan service.
The same way that my grandfather entered WWII in Dec 1943 as a 1st Lt and was a Major by Feb of 1945.

Your analogy doesn't really work when you consider maesters have to be masters of medicine, science, and many other mediums that you can't gain skills on the fly. Plus it isn't as if the maesters in Old Town were killed by Dany there were still plenty that would outrank Sam.

It's not a perfect analogy but it works well enough. The point being battlefield promotions have been a thing throughout history. Opa surely had plenty of officers/pilots more senior than him but whoever was calling the shot put their faith on his shoulders.

Regardless, the king makes the rules. If Bran/Tyrion want Sam, they get Sam. And discarding the traditional rules/norms of Westeros has been a constant theme since S1/Book 1.

Sam: Bran....er.sorry......your grace, shouldn't we consult with the Grand Maesters at the Citadel? That would be in keeping with traditions and norms.

Bran: So would not fathering children while either a Maester or Sworn Man of the Night's Watch, yet here we are.

Sam: Right. Your grace.

Meera wheels Bran to a scenic cliff overlooking a beautiful lake. Bran looks sad, so she asks him what's wrong. Bran says, "I'm a King, and I've never been kissed". Meera grins, bends down, gives him a long passionate kiss. Bran grins for a second, then looks sad again. Meera asks what is wrong. Bran says, "I'm also sad because I've never been f***ed". So Meera looks around, sees no one is nearby, and proceeds to undress Bran. She gets him naked, leans in close and whispers, "Now you're f***ed" and pushes him off the cliff.

Damn, I finally caught up on this thread.

A- Does being the 3ER incur longevity?

B- Grey Worm was so brutal during the sack of KL, then minutes later (to us) we see him escorting Tyrion to a possible trial. I actually expected him to impale on a spear whomever was chosen as the new king as payback but he truly became neutered. Did anyone else expect him to get some payback for the death of his queen?

C- Some supernatural power brought Jon back to life days after being stabbed. Did anyone else kind of expect same treatment for Dany? Or at least consider it?

I don't think Sam is grand maester, and I think the master assigned to the king is ever the head honcho anyways

it is clear he is Grand Maester. 1) He has a maester's chain 2) he has the grand maester robe 3) he is the king's maester

Don't care to re-read all 400+ pages so DGAFIAP... but it is pretty cool that Brienne is Lord Commander and her relative Ser Duncan the Tall was too.

The Grand Maester is just a Maester selected to be assigned to the king. I suspect if the king wants a particular Maester, he can have him which is why Sam is now the Grand Maester of King's Landing.

You guys are all thinking of Arch Maesters as being the head honchos, which they are, with one serving as Seneschal (the governing arch maester) over The Citadel each year.

Is that the 3ER or just a raven? I don't see the third eye on his forehead.

That's why Drogon took her back to Essos. Lots of witches back in Essos.

I see it now. Couldn't in the smaller res. Also I went back through that Wiki history and the image was added in April 2011. So no reason to photoshop it back then.

It could be as simple though as Bran and Rickon had "dreams" of Ned's death due to the 3ER and HBO was tying that together in the poster.
