I was browsing through Netflix and saw Alice Through The Looking Glass was added. I realized I had completely forgotten this movie even existed, much less that it had released this year.
Looked it up on Wikipedia to see how bad of a flop it was. It made $299 million WORLDWIDE. The first movie broke $1 billion and made more domestically than the sequel did globally.
What the hell went wrong with this movie? Even if it was a bad movie, bad sequels can still kill at the box office. (Transformers, etc.) I mean, how did Disney botch the marketing campaign this badly? Maybe they knew they had a stinker on their hands and refused to put any more money into it?
Is there any sequel that flopped this badly compared to its predecessor? Some franchises die out slowly, but I've never seen one drop off so dramatically in one movie.
