Best solo album

well on the semi final thread...after I paid to upgrade to PRO and have a month of access....I also had recommendations for other polls as well as those mentioned here.....

Best Album - this would be huge like 500 entries in round one
Best Live Album - might be more constrained to 100-150
Best Album Cover Art - another big one
Best Solo Album

we'll see what kind of time I have.....it's possible.

yes but not very well known....some retailers refused to stock it with that cover.....

My GnR CD had that pic on the inside.

I'm off to go listen to all 4 albums - or at the very least sample each track - before I vote.

Actually no...I'm going to force myself to listen to all 4 albums before voting. It's not the greatest album to listen to all the way through, however, I think the depth of the album has some bearing here.....

Here are my thoughts.

Boston fantastic album that is simply brilliant. There was nothing like it before or since.

Led Zeppelin. Awesome album that takes a classic american style, reinvents it and actually improves it. Basically what Elvis did but further and better.

Ten. Just a solid album that has held up to time.

Appetite. Saved Rick and roll. Rock had become a parody of its self and this album brought it back to its rebellious core.

So it is a tuff call outside of ten. If I have to give a nod to someone, it would be GnR.

I think the two greatest debut albums (from a subjective point of view, if at all possible) in history didn't make it. I'm not an Elvis fan, but his debut may be the most important album in rock/pop history. That album changed music probably more than any other album in history. The other one (which is probably more debatable) is Are You Experienced, just because of what it meant to how the guitar was played after that album came out.

I don't know.....the inside of The Ohio Players album Honey was ummmm......interesting to my 11 year old mind. It was a big controversy then and was legend among kids/teens probably because almost nobody owned it, but everyone had seen it somewhere....if someones parents had it for example everyone would go over to their house just to see it.

BY THE WAY - if you don't know the group/album you surely know one song on it "Love Rollercoaster" the original funkadelic version which was later covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers was on this album.

I don't disagree and on the original thread where nominations were put forth I mentioned those 2 and The Beatles Please Please Me of course....I mean that changed music dramatically. At least Jimi made the semifinals. NWA is another that changed music dramatically.

From a purely subjective point of view I think those 4 probably had more influence on music and were more important from that point of view. But this is more like the most popular debut album.

Remember Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all-time - doesn't make it the best however.

But I think it was a good representation of some of the best. And "Best" is a subjective thing.

most important and best are two different things.

I think "greatest" is more subjective, but I guess that's another debate. I didn't even vote for Elvis myself.

I voted for the album recorded and mixed in only 36 hours for the rock bottom price of ~$3500.

All 4 are worthy. It's more subjective than anything else at this point. I went with Tom Scholz

Tough choice. All are great albums

It's not over yet but there is a clear leader and then 2 are neck and neck close behind it.

The vote is closer than any of the prelim rounds - but the same one is leading that won the first and semifinal rounds, just not by as much.
