BTW, I never thought about how great that 1st Weezer album is ,top to bottom, until these threads. Really are no duds.
Maybe because no attempt at "slowing the party down"?....meaning,no ballads, etc.?
I'm going to add Aerosmith's Rocks as my representative. Find a clunker there! It's the greatest American rock album ever made, IMO. Even the ballad is amazing! But that's from a band that did the original power ballad with Dream On.
I really don't get that one...and wasn't going to comment over there on the vote thread (no influence).....
It's the only one that made the semifinals that I don't even own. I mean there were tons of 90s bands like that and I have many many of them or at least a GH album and several songs . I don't even own a single Weezer song in my 12K song library. So it struck me as very odd.
I don't dislike them and seeing the voting I even went and previewed the entire Blue album and yeah I recognize exactly 3 of them.... and Buddy Holly, Undone and Say it Isn't so are good songs. But they never really stood out as a band to me compared to about a dozen other similar 90s sounding bands - that alt/indie hipster doofus with an edge sound. Admittedly not my favorite genre but...I just don't get it I guess. I'd certainly never listen to that all the way through...I couldn't even make it through the preview of most of the songs. As far as greatest debut too....there are certainly others from that same time/genre that I like more.
Speaking of similar bands/sounds how did Bush - Sixteen Stone not get nominated at least a great debut album. I'd rather listen to that or Smashing Pumpkins or Offspring or Puddle of Mudd tbh.
But....to each his own.
