this cast gets better and better.
I always thought he'd look like an older Tom Hiddleston (Loki from Thor)Quote:
Leto Atreides I was a tall man with olive skin and black hair. He had a narrow face full of angles and planes, with a high-bridged nose that gave him the look of a hawk, and woodsmoke in his gray eyes.

That's pretty good, but Duke Leto was pretty tall, are they going to give him platforms?!I always thought he'd look like an older Tom Hiddleston (Loki from Thor)Quote:

Good call on Loki.

Ian McShane would make a good Leto
and he could call the Baron a phallic pressure imbalancer

It's all good...any interest in a new Dune is fine by everyone!

In a genre that is almost always highly political, Dune is maybe the MOST political novel of all time.

Isaac is a great casting, even if he is a bit young and short for the role as written. I think he'll play the even-handed and diplomatic Duke extremely well. Need to pair him with a great casting for Lady Jessica, simply because I think Isaac can play up an important part of the character we don't often see... his dual natures in his regal, military command as Duke, but his warmness and sensitivity toward Jessica and Paul.
Jessica needs to be cast by someone who can likewise play up a lot of different roles, from concerned mother to absolute terrifying and merciless badass.

The cast so far, in order of casting announcements, from earliest to latest...

For the record, Ferguson is 35, Isaac is 39, and Chalamet is 23. Again, I've never read the book, or seen the movie, but yeah, I agree that it does seem a little weird that Chalamet's character's parents aren't being played by slightly older actors. That said...
A) Ferguson already comes across as a little older/more mature than 35, Isaac can play order as well, and conversely, Chalamet was still playing high school characters as of last year.
B) People could technically age differently in this world / be younger, longer.
C) It's hard to argue when the cast is this good.

I have faith in Denis Villeneuve after arrival and blade runner.

So, here is an incredibly interesting social question:
Does this movie use the word "jihad?" It's a very important narrative and thematic point and MUST be discussed. There's no way to go over its uses in two major facets, one historical (why there are no intelligent computers) and one the major motivation for Paul.
