Is Dr. Doom always in a mask and does the mask move when he talks? That's the real hang-up, I think. You might want to make him CGI and have a really famous person voice him, because nobody wants to be the guy in suit villain and not be seen.

As fun as the first Spiderman was, the scenes where Goblin and Spidey are talking on the roof, but neither onne of them has any moving facial features was a real downer.

You could potentially have Dr. Doom go through a similar experience as Thing, where people make faces and say rude things about the appearance under the breath. Thing is bummed but ultimately comes to grips and Dr Doom lets it turn him into a bad guy

Is Doom supposed to be melded to the mask, or can it be like Deadpool where he takes it off and is just hideous underneath?

But the Mandalorian builds the no-face into the entire premise. His persona is that you don't see his face. Hiring an A-list actor to play Dr. Doom and then putting a helmet on him for an hour or two seems like a dud.

How is this different than 90% of superheroes and like half of the villains?

Plus they have the hand wavey nano masks now so they can show his face whenever they want.

And the arguably best villain of all time, Darth Vader, keeps his on basically his entire life.

If he just wears it when he's out in public, that's really all you need. I understand your point though.

Outside of flashbacks/origin, I don't really want to see Doom's face at all. Maybe when he's obtained ultimate power or whatever and his face is healed - but the fact that you're seeing his face should mean something. Probably something bad for our heroes.

I recall a final confrontation once where Reed and Doom are duking it out, and they end up in some kind of mirrored room and Reed rips off Doom's mask and the sight of his own scars and imperfection leaves him (temporarily) insane.

I know that'd be a tough sell for an actor but I'd like to think it's no different than having Brolin as Thanos. You get nearly all the fame and nerd cred that you would otherwise, as long as you put in a great performance. And a proper Doom should be able to do that with voice, body language, and writing good enough to give him the proper presence and clout.

their post-marvel work has not been well received...marvel needs to right the ship in a major way...i just really thought they'd make it happen

Not clicking that, but if a movie is fun, I think its existence is (usually) justified. I didn't expect this movie to be the one to do much else.

Now Secret Invasion - that did not justify its own existence in any way, shape or form. All it did was drag down the average quality of the whole MCU.

Just rewatched the first one a few days ago. Still holds up and to this day I think the opening sequence is the best of any action movie ever.
I was excited for the MCU version but all the delays before the strike has me a little nervous.
